Moving up to a 951?

How is the 951 market right now? Don't get me wrong - I absolutely love my 944, but I'm looking for something a bit quicker. From what I've read and seen, the 944 Turbo looks like an absolute BLAST to drive.

What could I get one in mediocre shape for? I'm not looking for anything in mint condition, just a fairly reliable daily driver that won't be driven untill winter is over(meaning I can work on it during that time)

This is basically just a thought in my mind right now and I'm not really sure I want to sell my 944(which I would have to do to buy a 951) but I'm just interested in the possibility.

Any help is much appreciated.

You can find high-mile or rough 951s for $5000 or so, but as with most cars it is always a case of pay more now or less later. A $5000 car needs another $5000 to make it an $8000 car. Save a bit longer and buy a nice driver.

Id do the turbo if you can. i made the upgrade just recently. Its like night and day between and n/a and a turbo.

There are some deals to be had. You can pick up an 86 in nice shape for around $7k or so. Somtimes you can get lucky and find one for less. But I looked for a nice 951 that I thought wasnt over priced or over ragged out and it took me 18 months to find the right car.

951's are hard to come by in my area. If I got the "turbo" itch I would just say to hell with it, buy and intercooler+plumbing+bov, a CT26-60, 951 injectors, and call it good. You could only run mild boost and you would have to either find a larger AFM (I've found several that are larger that the stock 944 guts would fit in fine) or eliminate it, but it would work. Anything over 10lbs of boost and you would either have to go with so REAL precise tuning and probably larger injectors and/or aftermarket control...but a car dyno-tuned to 10lbs of boost with N/A pistons would whoop up on 75% of the 951's out there for a fraction of the cost.

I will be selling an 87 951 that drives beautifully, pretty soon. It's nearly perfect mechanically, is very tight with no rattles, no leaks (but there's a seeping gasket). Records, etc. Just had a timing belt/rollers, etc. It's a guards red car with black interior. Body is straight, paint's not perfect but not too bad either. I was thinking around $7500-8k for mine. Know anybody interested?

Here's a picture:

I think you should consider a supercharger for your n/a. :-) You'll love a 951. Ahmet, I always thought a seep was a leak. Or is it an onion is a leek?

incidently, be cautious of those kits... they have proven to make much less than stated... the Lindsey racing 363 kit has not made over 320 from the reports I have seen of the kit (3), and that included a cam that was not priced in the kit! Have not heard much about the 340 kit though.

I don't understand the hype about Lindsey kits...they're over-priced and over-rated. I've yet to see anyone who's 100% satasfied with their products. Someone could spend less than $1000 and make more reliable horsepower than some of their kits...

Def. over priced... i am making circa 400WHP at 20 psi (will be on the dyno again next month to post a chart). Adding the HP mods its cost me about USD3,000 (max). I shop for bargins and call on favours

Well, there's a moist area, but it doesn't drip anywhere, including on the under trays. How's that?

As far as the kits go, well sometimes things work well together, sometimes they don't. I don't have first hand experience w/Lindsey, so no comment there.
