I'm all for it, ever since starting my job at a Porsche dealership driving brand new 997s and 987s and cayenne turbos my car just isnt fast enough anymore. I was just going to buy a 911 but if I can do this cheaper, why not?

i had some thoughts about 'will i get the use my a/c?' but hell it doesnt work anymore, so if your kit comes with an a/c deletes its a bonus for me
plus i had the best a/c replacement in the world, WD-60 (windows down going 60 mph)

Oddly enough FR hit the nail on the head with his pic. The point is ANYTHING and EVERYTHING is possible. You have 2 PROBLEMS that I see. 1. Uhmmmm a full blown package for half the price of SFR's. Well I guess they don't want to be in business for too long. 2. If they are not in business for too long who is gonna replace the parts when you break them. I LOVE home grown projects.........but thats what they are.

Well the whole half the price thing... seems possible, if the supercharger is cheaper than the competition, atleast I get that. I mean if a vortech, paxton, etc.. is the biggest cost in a kit and the rest is misc stuff... and you figure that anyone selling a supercharger kit is proably making a huge profit, then I can see a cheaper kit being available.
But still comes back to the Supercharger its self, will it hold up, what about warranty, etc.. if the unit is durable and its they can make it cheap enough then I can believe the projected price. I just get hung up on the Supercharger itself, I mean if you get past that the rest is easy to accept. |

Paxton's cost per unit to manufacture is around $500. The y do almost everything in house, the castings they farm out to a foundry down the street, and get an amazing deal because of the volume they do. So, using some off the shelf parts (turbo), and doing the gear box and braketry in house, they should be able to turn a decent profit at half the price of the "other kit."

Ok so yea that gets back to what I was saying then. You have the supercharger companies making their profit, all the way up to the person who sells the kit, making a profit... add in a mark up I am sure just becuase the kits are for a porsche =overpriced kits.
People have to make a living, but thats crazy. Even if the kits have come down in price. Well I am done with the commentary... guess the only thing to do is sit back and wait to see what comes in from these guys. |

Looks like these guys have gone and made the unit smaller and improved cooling?
Well thats the latest on the board, I read a topic over their that this guy and some guy called racing and another called nick had, seems they went round the block over a head swap. This guy seems to be on track with the stuff he is talking about, but this guy racing seems intent that head swaps and other things of that extreme nature, require money, a team of friends or engineers and lots of help. The supercharger guy, posted bits and pieces of his background, sounds like he certainly has the background for these projects. One thing to note is the need to ensure the engine is up to the stress of boost. Lot of differnt talk about intakes, rebuilds with VW pistons and the like... Seems all these 924 guys are getting things done in some interesting cost saving ways. Says that they have split testing up to do the 944 and 924 together? This will prove very interesting... anyone know more? |

i was just going to step in and say that, i love the home grown kits (as said before) especially when they are so simple, as in this case of what looks like a garett with the turbine end removed and replaced with a pully, it really leaves a lot to the imagination, and a lot of "user defiened options" (ignition, fuel delivery, and all that stuff previously mentioned) which really gets the owner more involved and more inteligent as far as what they are doing, also how else do you get that "unique-ness"?
i love your idea and i cant wait until you have more info up on the your system PS i think i speak for a large portion of this thread when i say KEEP US UP TO DATE!

The kit as it stands now:
· Smaller unit, easier to fit into “any” engine bay · Belt configuration currently matches the 944 AC & ALT · You keep your AC it fits with the ALT and AC you loose your stock air box. · I have a hard pipe for the intake and AFM, although I prefer a MAF or MAP setup, the average guy only has a AFM. · I am using my own 5th Injector setup, engages at anything above 2 PSI. · Running my own alcohol and water injection -- I am overly cautious. So this is my insurance. · In the past I found the 5th injector is an ample solution · Tested a FMU as well... interesting configuration, but can be made to work well.

It all depends on which car we are talking about. My efforts have mostly been on the 944.
I think a couple of months of real world testing, you know driving in traffic, etc... a few months of that in the Florida heat should be a good real world test. The unit is as solid as anything on the market, I am more interested in being better and seeing how the whole setup performs daily. The unit is basically good to go as is, its the mounts and all the associated hardware that I want to give a better finish to. I am going for that it came from the factory look. I might settle for just a nice clean look. The short answer is a couple of months give or take.

Well it will be ready soon.
I honestly can't wait to get a non-Porsche car to set something up in. That would give me a different platform to show off the universal applications. Sky real is the limit. Thinking some kind of beater with a good engine... add the supercharger or two and go. I would love to do a V6 with a twin setup... just for the Cool factor. Problem with producing things for general consumption is that I have to put my time into that, instead of playing with other things. With a race track less than 8 miles from my house... oh man... I get chills thinking about getting back on the track.
