Doubt you will find a body shop and mechanic in the same spot so you will probably have to with two different shops.

Sorry you are taking some hits here but this is a very curious project. You are in So. Calif. were there is no shortage of Porsche's available it would certainly be cheaper to find a low mile pristine 944 in the area. Can I presume this car has some personal connection for you?
I've had the car since it was about three years old, so yes I kind of have a connection to it. But even restored, it will not be my daily driver anymore.

Yes, I agree the body shop and mechanic shop will probably be different sites.

I thought about yes if I buy a cleaner 944, the I would have a better start. But even the clean ones will not be NEW and would still have to have most parts replaced.

I think this car will need to be stripped down to the chassis and completely restored with all new parts.

On the future 968 projects, I'm currently looking for 2 cars to purchase, one is actually for someone else. I'm trying to stay with a hard top, the newer the better.

Thanks JivenJim, for the shop information. I'll probably give them a call on Friday or Monday.

I don't think this is true. For me, I think the 944 platform is one of the more balanced and easy to drive fast cars out there. Even though I could afford to "upgrade" to a 911 or Boxter I choose not to because I think the car suits me very well. If there ever comes a time for more HP, then I will just do a Chevy V-8 swap. Oh wait... That's already happening

Good luck on your project and post pics please

FYI....there is no better Porsche...IMO. Obviously a man lacking intelligence or doesn't understand our passion to come to this forum and say there are "better" cars. You probably should have read a little more before making such a foolish statement.

Not really sure where you are getting your data. I think there are a lot of us that can afford very nice cars. The 944 just happens to be the car that excites me the most. I have many friends that drive M3s, 911's and Corvettes but I still like the 944 over the 911 and although I like the Corvette and M3 a lot, I still prefer the look and feel of the 944....it just fits. I've always enjoyed the looks of the 57 Chevy, 69 Camaro Z28, and the Porsche 944....and not in any particular order. Although I can afford a different model I CHOOSE to stay with this one. My Ford truck alone was almost as much as a Boxster and I have two of them....gotta pull those race car and horse trailers around and the Boxster just would not do that...does that mean the Ford trucks are "better"? No, just different. I have nothing against any other car made including other Porsche models, they are just not the cars for me.

Good luck on your restore.

Actually that is just a regional warehouse with a few "Porsche Executives". The real USA HQ is on the east coast.

We all know that the 944 is not a real porsche anyway.

Yes, the main HQ is in the East coast.

But the west coast area handles many of the accounting tasks, warehouse, shipping, etc.

Most (but not all) execs would be based out of the East coast and/or Germany locations.

By the way, several of the the German Vice pres. are currently in town to oversee a few things.
They're actually really nice guys.

Their California location is very important to them for support because most of the cars are sold within California. The only reason many companies locate their main HQ back east is the tax benefits offered by the states and local governments.

They actually had a small location in Santa Ana, which was in the process of being closed down and consolidated with the Ontario branch.

That is the dumbest idea I've ever heard.
Why ship it there if all the part are available here, the car is here, the know-how is available here (scarce).

On the other hand, they invited me and my wife to go to Germany. We plan to go very soon when time and upcoming vacation permits.
I'll show you how high rollers play then.....hooya

Just a note on some of the thin skinned 944 crowd... I think you take the ribbing from the 911 boys a little too seriously.

Anyone notice that a 924S took best of show at the Ft. Worth Porsche parade?

If someone wants to do a ground up resto on a 944 what's the big deal

really? taking the car to be restored by the company that created it is the dumbest idea you've ever heard? you obviously don't know anything about the Porsche business, either that or your finances aren't what you pretend. if they were (and you had any knowledge at all of Porsches) you surely wouldn't be wasting your time on us proletarians and get the help you need from your friendly Porsche execs. please give it a rest, do some real research, and come back when you actually understand of what you speak

done with another troll. goodbye

scottyboy. I don't think anyone here is set against a resto. hell, I just did one on mine over the last year-and-a-half. (yep, the pics are old) Geritol-Man55 was the one that said 944 owners were only here because we couldn't afford anything "better"

I agree with ronin...that was my point. If he thinks the other models are better, then go restore one of those and please don't come here telling me the other models are better because that is just an opinion. ...and a bad one.

I don't care if he restores one or not, I don't even care if he ever even owns a Porsche, I just don't think he should come here to tell us our cars are not as good as the rest and that we only own them because we are financially unable to own a different one. He doesn't know my financial condition nor should he care. Truth be known, I probably make more than he does and there are probably many here that make more money than I do...but I do my best not to be disrespectful to anyone no matter how much money they make or don't make...because it doesn't make a difference. We all still love these cars or we wouldn't own them at least that is the case for me and I didn't appreciate him telling me what I would do IF I could afford a different Porsche model because he really has no clue what I would or would not do. Actually I hope he does do the restoration. Always good to see another one saved.

I got to admit it seems odd he want to dump a boatload of money restoring a car that he doesn't show much respect for... I am just presuming maybe his Internet etiquette isn't very well... but then I am the trusting sort.

Do you have any Grey Poupon?
