Name that part...

I have a 1984 944. Just in front of the battery box, is a funky cylindrical lime green thing. Anyone know what it is and what it does?? The manual doesn't say anything about it....
Just wondering if anyone knew!

It holds extra vacuum so that certain things that are vacuum actuated or need vacuum to operate will do so when your engine isn't pulling down vacuum as hard.

As Kevin said it holds a reserve of vacuum, mainly needed when you turn the a/c on (which will effectively drop your vacuum from somewhere around 20-22 in/hg to probably 11-13 in/hg).

So, If my a/c doesn't work, that canister isn't needed!??!
Or, might there be something else it's used for!?
