Right-rear floor area soaked after it rains.

This is a problem that has plagued every porsche I have ever owned (4). It appears that rain manages get in somewhere whenever it is parked a certain way. It only ever affects the rear floor area on the right side. The only way I have been able to deal with the problem is to use a fan to dry it up. Since I am 4-for-4, there has got to be others who suffer from the same issue. Does anyone know where/how the water is getting in, and what the fix is?

I seem to get a little water dripping in from the sunroof.. but that usually ends up on the rear seat, not on the floor

I had the same issue and it was a crack in the sheet metal by the battery. Once patched, no more water.

There have been many posts on this problem. The cause is from the battery area. Once you patch it, no more water.

I've been getting rain water in the RR foot well, the RF foot well, the LR foot well and in the trunk area. The trunk was sorted out by snaking and blowing clear the hatch pin drain lines but the other areas confound me. The sunroof drains are clear and I rocker guarded the batt pan a few months back. Is the leak under the battery rack?

i thought he meant in the back of the car, on the floor in front of the right back seat, not in the front passenger foot area.
But yes I too had a hole where the battery goes. Once I got that fixed the water in the passenger foot area stopped.

If you're talking about the passenger footwell, then +1 on the battery tray leaking.

If you mean the right rear of the back compartment area (the back hatch), then I'd vote for the lower hatch seal.

I had that problem on my 83 that finally was resolved with a new hatch seal. Before that, I'd tried adjusting the locking pins and other stuff all to no avail.

This problem is usually not caused by the battery tray or the hatch seal. This is usually a problem with the sunroof seal or more likely the rear sunroof drain where it goes down past the filler door. I think there is a tee there, and water can back up and leak down behind the rear quarter liner and onto the floor. Double check that the sunroof drain is properly connected all the way down and not clogged up.

When it leaks through the battery area, the water manages to make its way to the footwell of the right rear seat. That is usually the first place you will see water coming through the carpet when it is leaking by the battery.

I have the same issue and I don't have a sunroof. For me, over time the battery pan has rusted out, and as the windshield drains straight into the battery pan and out the other side, its like turning a tap on in my passenger foot well. Patch that (mine was bad enough when I got it to need a sheet of tin tack welded in, and voila, no more passenger swimming pool)

Mine too when i open the passenger door there is a pool of water trapped between the door seals that spill on my shoes. I think it is overflow from that.

there are drain hoses all over these cars - make sure they are connected and clear of gunk

My car is rust free, even in the battery area, and with the nose parked down hill, I still had water in the footwell of the back seat. I suspect it was either the sunroof was not properly seated or perhaps a bad door seal.

there are drain lines in the sunroof area that run down the side of the car (at least there are on the 968) - very small and very easy to clog

As I said, there is a tee from near the fuel filler door, if it is disconnected, water will drain down the inside of the rear quarter liner...and won't show up with the aforementioned clog-tests.

how do you clean them out? compressed air?
My fuel filler area drain is plugged up & when the car gets wet, the fuel fill area fills up with water.
If you blow out w/ comp air, do you run the risk of blowing the drain hose loose from the fitting?

dial back your compressor to 25-30 lbs or so and use short quick blasts - that should do it

Compressed air won't always get everything out. A 924board member posted a method of tying a knot in weed wacker / string trimmer line and pulling it thru, which seemed to work better than compressed air without the risk of blowing the tubes off.

that trick works pretty well, as long as it isn't too long, you use the thick stuff, and there aren't a lot of kinks in the line - definitely safer regarding hose blow off though

Wow, on the # of responses on this one, in a relatively short period of time. BTW, I did mean the right REAR footwell. And it had occurred on ALL of the cars listed below. It looks like the consensus is the right side SR drain line. Now I know WHAT it is, WHERE it is, and HOW to deal with it. Thanks to all who replied.
