Size Of Two Front Bolts on Cylinder head

I lost the bolts i guess. I can't find the 2 bolts on the front driver side of the engine on the PET catalog. The head is on and i have not fastened any bolts and those 2 darn bolts i must have striped and tossed away so i need new ones or atleast find out what bolts i do have that i can use. Cam shaft bolts?

thanks

Yes they are the only bolts 1 is longer than the other and they are right next to one of the temp sensors they have an Allen head hex bolts. It's also near the upper radiator hose that leads to the bleeder valve. I guess I should have taken a picture

I guess it would not hurt to order those as well as they aren't in the best condition. Glad I can buy it at the hardware store b/c i was going to go to Pepboys or Kragen/checker is more $$$. But aren't there different grades of M8 or is M8 the grade? Here is a picture of the 2 bolts from my spare motor which i would use but i don't want to be missing parts in the future.

The bolts im talking about are by both of my fingers. Thanks for the help thus far i appreciate it.

Regards
J

it's not a load bearing bolt. metric 8.8 or sae grade 8 would be more than enuff.

Actually I think IIRC that those bolts do go thru the head and into the block so I'd say they have some load bearing function. I'd just borrow the two from the other engine and trade back when/if you ever use that engine.

Yeah took them out and didn't strip luckily but they were rusted badly.I did find a match for 1 bolt after I took it out (shorter one) and it's the same as the intake manifold bolts..... The other bolt is still up in the air

M8 is the thread (shank) size, not grade. You want atleast a grade 8.8 bolt for most items on the car with the exception of suspension, brake, seat related stuff where you get the highest rated bolt you can find (12.9 or dealer bolts are best).

Make sure you get atleast a zinc plated bolt because one of the two runs right through the water jacket and will cause problems on removal again in the future. Anti-seize both of them liberally. If you cant find it locally and dont want to pay a dealer price, check BoltDepot.com or McMaster.com . The only difference in hardware is the dealer stuff has the yellow zinc plating which is not a big deal.

I have hardly ever been able to find good grade metric hardware locally in the states.. most stuff is sub grade 5 and that is running they even have the size i need.

Did you have trouble getting that one out by your thumb (the short bolt) ? I'm working on mine now. I have been tapping on and soaking it since this morning. I have a 6" allen socket and I am only putting enough torque on it to see it twist slightly.

Are you Using PB BLaster on the bolt or something else b/c you gotta use PB BLaster its the best and because it has a high flash point you can heat up the bolt with a propane torch spray some PB Blaster and it should Soak in... spray a little more then tap the center of it with a hammer and chisel and Tap. Heat it up again Then soak it wit PB BLaster again to cool it down and if you're in no hurry leave it for a day and it should come right off. On my Exhause bolts and all the other bolts i actualy hit them all with PB BLaster And waited 1 or 2 days maybe more before I broke um loose and it was a piece of cake. I get ants in my pants most of the time and i want to get stuff done the same day but in the case of the Head bolts including the Exhaust bolts it was worth the wait.

Found The Bolts that i needed at a local shop that specializes in nuts and bolts. The shorter one it the same size and the Camshaft and intake bolts the Larger bolt on the front of the head by my finger on the picture it got slightly larger hopefully it works if it does ill post the size. And the best part of it the bolts were rated at 12.9 which is stronger than stock so when they have to be uninstalled they wont strip... and they are Zinc plated he said ( Silver color)

Heat the block (area around the threads) and try getting it out. Its not the end of the world if the head of the bolt breaks off. If its anything like my car, the stud was badly corroded around the center of the stud and its snapped with barely any torque. You can still get the head off with the stud broken. With the head off, you should be able to get a pair of vice grips on the stud and plenty of room to get penetrating oil on there and once again, heating the block around the stud with the good old heat wrench.

I will double check in the pet catalog. I think I just got one locally that was a bit longer and uses washers to make up the difference
