Rising value of the 944's??
So I have'nt had a 944 in a while. had 3 total. never paid more than $2500. I bought a 928S and have it for sale and will be buying another 944 and paying some bills. 928's seem to be falling a bit and the 944's seem to be going up.
Am i just drunk....??

I am moving near you btw, looking at a house in Marshfield just outside of Springfield. Let me know if you ever need some mechanical help or want to take a cruise as I know 4 people in the state of MO right now. My car should be ready to go mid fall depending on how much more havoc transferring causes to my progress.

you are drunk!
944 values are still low. The only thing I can see changing is that finding nice ones is hard. You may infact have to pay quite a bit to get a really good condition 944.

Oh sorry I was dog tired last night, been up to my eyeballs in paperwork with moving and was waiting on the dryer to finish so I could go to bed. Lots of run on sentences when I am tired so I thought he was calling me drunk (only if there are excessive typos lol). Only now did i notice that in the OP because THE ENTIRE DAMN THINGS WAS IN BOLD SO I WAS DISTRACTED

Kilo the costs to keep them nice are going up, prices are holding. Yes the supply goes down each year but the 944 family was I think the highest production world wide Porsche has had so still easy to find. People tend to want 85.5 and later, and that age is still probably 10 years from demanding a collectibility premium IMO. If you have a turbo, S, S2, etc. you will prob see that have more interest and rising prices before the NA.

Thanks,
I don't ever see the general 944 population going up appreciably. Like you, I feel that far too many of them were made for that but I was wondering if people are seeing an increase in the price delta between the nicer examples and the more average condition cars. I would however assume that any such delta would be mitigated by the turbo population to a great extent. Still just wondering. For me the 944 (compared to other Porsches) is proving to be a great daily driver. Still an attractive look, good gas mileage, reliable, cheap parts and easy maintenance and enough room to hold a bike inside.....

Eventually they'll go up again. They're probably at or near the bottom of their depreciation curve right now where every wanna-be zit-faced high-school kid can afford one and inevitably either ends up wrapping them around trees, blowing the engine and subsequently parting out the car (after realizing how expensive they are to stay on top of), or let them go to hell (after realizing how expensive they are to stay on top of). As such, simple supply/demand economics will do its magic and you'll see an uptick, more noticeable once demand increases in addition to the supply decrease.
The appeal of cars from this era is becoming clearer as people seem to get progressively more and more sick of ever-increasingly draconian emissions laws and an overabundence of expensive-to-fix, delicate electronic crap on "modern" cars. I personally LOVE the fact that these cars do NOT have OBD-II as well, which ultimately means one less potential way to fail a smog check. It will happen, but I don't see it happening yet except for very pristine or exotic examples (like cherry 968s or S2 Cabs, or maybe perfect and unmolested 951s/951S-es).

163,000 944s were built. In comparison, before that, there were 118,000 914s built.. .. But the 914s all rusted out in comparison. There have also been over 200,000 BOXSTER built just for comparison. As such, there are still a lot of 944's out there. But with time, many have fallen into disrepair.. as owners are shocked at the cost to keep them maintained properly.
So, the value of GOOD condition cars (ie, original, unripped interiors, dashes, exterior panels, new clutches, working electrics etc etc) should go up as examples get scarcer each year. I hope to see 944 values rise up a bit.. and at 20-28 years old they should. 914s took nearly 30 years to rise back up in used car value.

very nice 87 there. I look every night on the board. I prefer to buy from a member.
Like I said, I have never paid more than $2500 for any of my porsches. With the help of board members, I have yet to put more than $250.00 into any of them and all of them i made money. I was trying to take baby steps to the Turbo but came across the 928S which sady i must sell. Im done. Just trying to find one to just drive now...... a red one this time. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
