Funny, I had my 924S to 133 within a few months of owning. My 951 i honestly haven't had the urge to do more than 110. It's like i was trying to prove smething to myself in the 24S, but I KNOW that the 951 is fast enough with no proof....Maybe it just scares me how fast it gets to 110

My 83-944 will cruise between 75 & 80 mph without any drama but the car was mechanically in tip top shape,I'll say in a 26 yrs period of ownership the car have seen close to 135mph at least 3 or 4 time for short period of time on lonely stretches of road. When I bougth my 968 last summer it was a 4hrs drive to get it home, again cruising at between 75 & 80 mph but contrary to the 944 at that speed & in six the car felt as if it wasn't going nowhere,so when there was no traffic in sigth I,ll get her up to 120 - 130 mph for a while then crawl back down to 80 again. Then one day the 968 top speed subject came up on the Rennlist 968 forum and I decided to see if the guys were BS or not,so I took the car for a gentle spin in a control area, at close to 155 mph I lift my foot from the gas even though the car felts rock solide at that speed my nerves didn't.What I'm saying here is at that at over 150 mph thing happen very fast you got to trust your machine & to know it's limit , plus have a car with motor/ suspension & tires wise that can take that kind of speed,I don't want to sound like a macho man here by writing this reply,I did it once but will never do it again trust me.

Now that I think of it, the only time I've been going 75 was either on my way to 100 late at night or on a short straight stretch of mountain road. I've never been on an interstate with the 944. I would have to say that these cars are designed for high speeds and 80 to 90 is a good solid crusing speed.

Yeah, my 951 scares me too. 105 takes no time at all - and I do that right on a metropolitian area freeway. My car fels completely stable at 105, but holy christ, is the scenery flying by!

My car is 24 years old. I've gone through a lot of it, and it's in decent shape, but there are still a whole lot of areas I haven't gotten to. I can't be entirely sure something isn't gonna go south. At 100+ MPH, if something important does break, you're really and truly SOL. So that's my limit.

But I do have to say I really am wondering what it'd be like to run it to redline in 4th!

Driving speed will depend on your driving comfort (no set or fast rules) I feel comfortable at 80-90 on the highway traffic surfing and back roads what ever I can get away with, do a DE, Auto Cross in your area it will show you what these cars can and will do.
bottom line drive safe with in your limits not the cars limits on the road...my 2 cents

cruising

924S (low fifth) cruises very nicely and gets reasonable mileage at just under or around 3K. As my speedo STILL isn't working (on the to do list) I can only estimate it at 60-ish. In commuting traffic the short fifth is nice, on th highway I sometimes think the regular 5th might be better for a long haul. With the current setup I will take it to 4k or so on a good clear stretch, beyond that she really starts sucking down the fuel. I just drove houston to LA , then to Humbolt, Sacramento, back to LA and will be driving LA to Houston.

Tunes and AC are a must for the long trips. I have a good set of tools with me and TWO DME relays. This is a daily driver folks, years of maintinace and repair to get it this dependable. These cars LOVE to drive. The engine has a special sound that can only be heard with reasonably fresh belts after a few hundred miles. It kinda purrs and growls at the same time.

Wish we had those kind of cops around here,we got RCMP here, they use to to move around on horses back but lol not anymore,if they were to catch you at that speed they probably but the cuffs on you & walk you straigth to jail.

4 years ago my cousin and I did a Winnipeg/Vancouver trip in 21hours 51 minutes total time (includes all pit stops). Not bad for a Series 1 car if I do say so myself. The only small hitch was I met up with Ernies buddies outside of Hope BC. Man did that ticket smart!!

law enforcement

Yes, law enforcement will take an interest in The early model Porsches. I was pulled over in AZ by a State Trooper that I think just wanted a better look at the car. (nice kid actually) You have to understand that it is thier job to keep the roads safe for ma and pa normal in thier minivan and not all sports car owners drive as responsibly as we do. I challenge ALL tickets and I think that there is some kind of readout to that effect that gets pulled up when they run the plate.

Move with traffic. Don't be the fastest or slowest car on the road. If you must devastate your mileage by going fast, pick the appropriate areas to do so. I find that on long highway trips it is just a better idea to settle in and take your time. The mental drain of higher speed takes it's toll after a bit.

IMHO, if you really want to cover ground on the highway, you are better off with a less conspicuious 4 door sedan. But, what fun is that?

I've been driving my car now for last week to work etc - and I don't know why you guys want to go fast like that

I enjoy my 60-70mph drives all the time! open windows, open top, music playing, w00t!

and also, maybe you guys with other colors can get away with more stuff that you do, but with a bright color like Guard's Red, it would be tough - cops spot these from far far away

and yes, a lot of them would pull you over just to ask about the car, lol

Roman why don't we create a little cops-confusion here by having these on the road all at the same time.
