making subframe/adapter for Corbeau seats
Hi Pelicans,
I've got a pair of Corbeau targas that are in ok shape that I want to fit to my 924S. The sliders that are on the seats are narrower than the stock sliders so I need to either buy adapters or make some. The adapters seem quite expensive, and also look like simply 4 bits of flat steel welded together. I was wondering whether a couple of stips of flat steel would do the job. The way I'm imagining it is to bolt the front two mounting points of the seat to a strip of steel and the rear two to another piece then mount those to the original mounting points on the floor. This is basically what the Corbeau adapters are but without the steel strips connecting the front and back strips. Has anyone done anything similar, and do you think not joining the two steel strips would mean the mount wasn't strong enough? From looking at a few of the subframes available that are 'universal' it looks like a few sections of flat steel is really all you need. Mike

I think factory 911/944/924 manual seat rails should bolt right up to the corbeau seats sans the sliders you already have bolted on to it.

Corbeau makes sliders to adapt their seats to the 924/944.

Depends on the seat width.
On my 924, I mounted the rails to the side-mount adapters and then bolted them to the stock seat mounts. I think I had to drill two holes in the sliders to match the rear mounting points. Make sure you use good quality hardware and proper thread engagement. Make sure to check if your seat requires the seat back to be supported. Some seats require it. Most racing organizations require it with a cage anyway.

I did exactly what you're talking about. Went to HD, bought a piece of 1/16x3 flat stock, mounted the factory slider to the corbeau (slight adjustment was necessary, IDK if you would need to add a hole to your slider...), drilled holes to fit the factory slider to the flat stock, mounted the slider to the seat, drilled holes in the flat stock to match the floor, mounted flat stock to the slider, bolted the whole kaboodle to the floor to the factory hardpoints using the factory hardware, ... job done.
Corbeau does sell the 924/944 adapter for factory sliders. About $100 IIRC. I think my parts, including flat stock and 8 M8 bolts, washers and stuff was maybe $25. Last edited by emoore924; 10-10-2011 at 12:20 PM.. |
