Driver side door was getting difficult to open from the outside - worse with lower temperature. Used Kroil graphite spray on the outer mechanism, PB Blaster all-purpose lubricant on the inner mechanism, and adjusted the trigger linkage a little.
The inner mechanism lever that is controlled by the outer trigger linkage needed some mechanical "adjustment" with pliers due to a worn/loose pivot. Now works like new.

I opened up the hood then sat on a 5 gallon bucket and sighed. LOL

After months of searching for breather hose from CamBelt to Air Box, I finally found one, and ordered it. Yay! I can’t wait to install it.

Were you aware of the TSB on the deletion of that part?

Figured out why, all of a sudden, my battery was dying. Looked all over for a loose or grounded wire. Or maybe something is ON and I just don’t know it. Turns out the passenger window switch was stuck in the “up” position.

Thank you, I was not. When I bring my 944 in for service soon, I’ll bring in the part and ask the Porsche service center about it. What was the reason for deleting this breather tube? As I mentioned before, after inheriting this car I’m on a reverse-engineering fact finding mission to learn about it. Thanks!

ONLY items to show 35 year age on my '87 944 S were the front and rear rubber bumpers - warped, rusted mounting plates in rubber - bad.
Good Porsche friend and neighbor just happened to have an '87 924 S for a parts car (too good for that I told him, and I got it running to prove it) as he is restoring another '87 924 S, and he gave me its like new bumpers for free. I put them on today and now - like the rest of the car - ALL looks like a new car. Am I a happy 944 driver or what? Was dark when I finished - maybe pics tomorrow........ GN

And that's the reason why I've kept the "breather tube" on my cars. A belt started to fragment a bit a few years ago - I wouldn't have known if the belt dust wasn't on top of the filter. I realize there's a TSB on capping both ends but I'll just keep the hoses in place just the same.

I took apart the VDO clock in my 1987 924S, went ahead and replaced the capacitors. Pleasantly surprised this revived the 35 year old time piece!

Removed the fuel tank. Learned that the original upper torsion bar mounts needs to be removed before dropping the tank.

Took her for about 50 mile ride in the twisties taking a good '91 Corvette friend to a good Mexican restaurant to show him how wonderful a 944 is in the corners. He's impressed with my Cayman S having driven it, but wasn't up to driving the 944 S yet - soon I hope.
Never cease to be pleased about how this sweet thing drives & handles. Oh - I'm overdue on pics......see below.... GN

I recently had my ‘83 944 smogged, and it passed. Two things of interest: The smog tech said early German cars like mine, reset the O2 sensors if I turn off the engine, which makes them difficult to pass the smog. So next time he said to drive 5 miles on the freeway to get really warm, and do NOT turn off the engine before smog I get. Secondly, I have a small under-hood light to help see things under the hood when it’s dark. I could never figure how that light turned on, but the smog tech made it work by opening the hood then turning on the driving lights. Wow! And the light turns off when the hood is lowered.

That is correct, you need to have your lights on for the bonnet/hood light to work. It works via a mercury switch which is a very clever idea.
Do you have an owners manual for your car? If not try ebay or even Porsche for new. They are full of good info like this for 944 owners. There are other features that owners often don't know about that they discover on their 944 journey like how the odo reset button works (in late 944) and the highway lighting- where when you park on the road at night you can leave your indicator on with the ignition off and it will light your front and rear lights on the side indicated for night visibility.

I ordered a evap smoke machine so I can check everything for leaks. I made two different homemade ones in past years, but am ready to have a nice one that has on-board air.

Last week friend Rick found me incredible 17" 993 Cup II wheels in 7" & 9" that had been nicely chromed (I love chrome inspite of what Porscheophiles think) and last night had Riken Raptors put on in 225/45R17 front and 255/40R17 rear (just 10mm less than my Cayman S wide).
Noticeable improvement in handling from wider grip and lower aspect ratio tires AND at the same time a great improvement in looks (sorry, not a phone dial fan). This car just moved from being great to being incredible..... Could not be a happier 44'er......... GN

I figured out you need to be a small child or adult contortionist to work under a 944 dash.

NO where near as bad as under the dash of my 924 Turbo I restored and sold in Sept. Fuse box on the 944.2 is under the hood, easy access.

NEW 17” wheels & wide, low-aspect ratio tires:
![]() Took car out this afternoon on twistiest roads I know and thrashed her. Outstanding results, could not be more pleased. Steering responsiveness: much improved. Quicker response, more precise. Grip: Noticeable improvement in road cling, car can corner harder without breakaway. Neutral handling: improved - if possible. Flatness in hard turns: reduced roll, noticeably so. Stays flatter, yet without harshness that a larger sway bar might have brought. Ride comfort: Zero reduction in ride comfort. I expected a harsher ride with thinner tire sidewall. None noticeable at all - still great at shock/bump absorption. Ride noise: My Cayman S with 19” tires/wheels has a lot of road noise. No change on 944 as far as I could tell. Break-away: intentionally forced car to break loose a few times. Wider thinner tires are even more forgiving with no loss of control, just a totally neutral slide with easy recovery. CAR IS TRACK READY! or maybe AutoX ready! TOMORROW: Shock tower strut brace goes in. It has to improve things even more. Am I a happy 44'er or what? GN

Gatornapper…that’s a beautiful 944! This past Saturday I drove mine into Hollywood for a bit of wine tasting at a wine store, on while driving through heavy traffics down Vine Street, a woman stuck her head out of her car, waved at me, and took all sorts of pics on her phone. Either she liked my car or she thought I was some sort of movie star. Hmmmm.
