I'm on fire! Well, not literally. I've been out in the barn working on the 924s nearly every day and the project is moving forward briskly...after not moving forward for a long time.

Being on fire might be nice, as it's about 20 degrees in the barn and the cold weather is not making this easier. I'm okay if it's above freezing. Below freezing and I start to feel a bit uncomfortable.

Today, I was able to strip out two of the flywheel bolt heads. I'm not too worried about it, as options remain. Aside from the stripping of the bolt heads, I was smart. I broke the crankshaft pulley bolt loose before attempting to remove the flywheel. I am going to replace the timing and balance shaft belts before the car hits the road again.

My plan for tomorrow is to get the two flywheel bolts out. I may weld a nut to the bolt heads and turn them out. If that does not work, I will probably drill the heads off. No profanity has been used yet, so that remains an option too.

I finally got back to getting the flywheel bolts out. I found that the rear main seal is leaking a little. Removed the seal and inspected the crank seal surface.

It's got a groove worn in it so I ordered the repair sleeve and new seal.

Did nothing to my car today. It is in garage for some winter maintenance and upgrades. However, found in my phone a video from Youngtimerrally hill climb event from this autumn and put in on a YouTube.

Holiday break has allowed me to finish a few lingering 89 951 projects and go for a nice drive. Note all engine issues found to have age/heat related damage

replaced battery cables-positive had severe deterioration
replaced reference & speed sensors-crumbled upon disconnection
cleaned engine bay ground points
new RB engine fuel hose kit
replaced heater core supply and return hoses
fixed vacuum hose separation at cycling valve
cleaned undertrays and fender wells
new Toyo RA1 tires

Found more work to schedule & parts to order!

Last 7 days....

I drove it out of storage.
Charged the battery.
Took it to a mechanic to get a roadworthy certificate.
Received a long list of things which needed doing to make it roadworthy.
Bought a Cobra race seat and installed it (needed to reupholster the original seat, this was quicker).
Ordered a couple of grand of parts from PP (ok, this included a Sharkwerks x muffler for my 997.2 but don't tell the wife).
Washed and cut&polished the car, vacuumed inside.
Removed the not-working rear left seat belt.
Installed a new after market seat belt.
Removed the after market seat belt because it's the wrong type.
Got some new track rubber on the rims.
Added some oil, by the state of the driveway it needs it.
Added some coolant.
Went for a short drive and noticed the engine temp gauge hadn't moved, returned home and found the radiator fans weren't working either.
Smacked my head on the door frame and hurt my neck.
Posted a call for help on this forum about the temp gauge/rad fan.

Tomorrow I'm going fly fishing with a mate. He's driving...

600 grit sand paper the whole body. Tape towel. Respray and 2 coats of clear. 1 day rest. Then 1000-2000 grit paper and compound and wax. About 80% came up brilliantly.

Next sewed in front seat mid sections. I hate piping.
Everything done by hand. No polisher. No sewing machine.

Rufrob,

Could you post a picture of the seat middle sections you sewed in? I'm planning a similar repair.

Thanks!

Wow! Nice work! Thank you for the photos.

Over the past few days I have disassembled the torque tube and ordered new bearings. I was kind of surprised how relatively easy it was to remove the TT. I thought that the rear suspension would be tougher to drop. It was not bad at all.

I used Clarks Garage's instructions on pulling the bearings out. Clarks is right; it does take forever to pull the bearings out without an impact gun.

The instructions say that the early cars have riveted bearing retainers. Mine is from an '87 and it has the riveted retainers. In any case, it looks like it will not be that difficult to put it back together. I was surprised to find that the bearings seemed okay. I don't know what a bad TT bearing sounds like. I guess I did not have a bad bearing. However, it would be nice to not have to disassemble the car once its on the road, so it's a good preventive repair.

Had a new windscreen fitted, perfect fit and nice install by O'Briens.
Spent $120 on a new rear left seatbelt. Perfect fit, easy install, great service by Seatbelt King in Braeside.
Banged head on door frame again, must remember to duck.

Not my car, but photographed my friend's 88 Turbo S Silver Rose the other day.

I might do some giclee prints if anyone is interested in frameable art prints

PORSCHE 968 FRONT SPLITTER INSTALLED David Pagan

Finally getting there , installed the front splitter on my project 968 .... still tweaking my design. Thinking of tapering the edges a little more on the next mold

Over the past few days, I have installed the flywheel, clutch and bell housing. I also installed the newly-rebuilt (and painted!) torque tube.

Also, as this is a conversion from automatic to manual, I looked into installing the clutch master cylinder. At first it looked like there was solid sheet metal at the mounting point. I was thinking about how I was going to get a hole saw in the right position as I used a screwdriver inside the car to poke at the firewall. I was very happy to find that the hole is already there, it was only covered with insulation.

Next steps: get the wiring to the starter into position, finish up the clutch hydraulics installation, replace the fuel lines and hoses, and install the rear suspension.

I had adjustable LED's installed on my 944. Way cool!
So nice to be able to adjust for night or day or rain or whatever.

Painted in the logos on the hub caps. Had been meaning to do this for a while since I spayed them over a year ago.
