No lube needed for mine, but as it's keyed I don't see why it would be a problem. Good luck with the rest of the project.

The new timing idler roller doesn't have a washer. The old roller had one side with a raised edge acting as a washer. See pic below of the old and new roller (old on top). Do I need a washer?

Lube wasn't needed, got it started and tapped it into place. Thanks for the reply.

Been a while so I thought I'd update this thread. Tensioned the belts, installed timing cover, installed new PS reservoir and updated hose, installed new rotor and distributor, installed hose from water pump to radiator, installed plug wires.

All that remains is to reinstall the radiator fan, air box, and AC/ALT and PS belts. Any tips on tensioning these belts? The tensioning bars seem very hard to turn, so I soaked them in PB Blaster.

Should have the car ready for first start up by the weekend. Hopefully all goes well. Thanks to everyone for the advice, I really couldn't have completed this project without you guys!

Question Oil level question

OK, so I succeeded in my start up on Sunday. Had a couple minor things to address, but took care of them.

My question concerns the oil level or specifically how much oil (capacity) the engine requires. Per the manual I added approximately 5.8 quarts. However, when I checked the oil level it's just slightly above the minimum level. Oil pressure is solid, 5 bar at start up and stays put until the engine warms up some. Fluctuates between 3.5 and 5.

Since I had the car drained for 2 months, I'm curious if the engine requires slightly more oil when filled from zero (to fill the oil filter and cooler). There are no leaks or drips under the car.

Thanks.

I think you are probably right, I would just pop a bit more in to bring the level to at least halfway between min and max on the dipstick. You shouldn't need too much more..

It's great that the project work is completed and you're motoring again!

Thanks Rhett. The level is steady on the dipstick, so I'm going to add enough to raise it into the middle.

The project was definitely a learning experience. If I can do it, anyone can. Already planning the next big project!
