What is my car worth?
I'm just curious what you all think my car is worth as I'm selling it and don't want to be too high/low.
I'm in the process of repainting it/prepping it for paint. When I sell it, it will be dent free and with flat black primer or maybe original paint for the price of the paint. Here's the details. New within 6 months: Front of Engine Seals Fuel Filter changed just a few days ago DME Relay also changed a few days ago Thermostat Timing Belt (OEM) Balance Belt (OEM) Rebuilt Waterpump Sport All Season Tires Rear (500 Miles on them) AOS Seals Coolant Temp Sensor AOS Breather Hose Waterpump Hose Front Control Arm Bushings (OEM) Front Sway Bar Bushings (OEM) Belts Professionally Tensioned Any bolt I removed I replaced with a new one New within the last year - 2 years Koni Sport Shocks in the rear!!! CV Joint Boots on rear axles Battery Kicker Front Speakers Alternator Alternator belt Not as good The interior is a little rough and will need some TLC, dash cracks, ripped leather on front seats. AC not working PS pump small leak Small Oil Leak

Left unpainted maybe $1500, in primer maybe $1800, painted maybe $2500? Maybe a few hundred more with receipts for the timing belt job.

I always find it interesting when someone will list a car on craigslist and say, "Oil just changed" as though that should add some sort of value to it. I don't buy a car because it had the general maintenance that it should have had. Even if a seller tells me they just changed the timing belt, I will still pull the top and front of the engine apart and change out all of the belts, seals, and gaskets. I do the work myself and always assume I will spend about $450 in parts for this (and a day or two of my time). I hate to assume that someone will tell me what I want to hear to sell me their car, but I only trust my own work. So, when I see a 944 for sale, I just add that expense on to the selling price so I know the work is done. That being said, a car with fresh paint in the condition you are saying, I would expect to be in the $2500-$3000 area. Interior, I have most of the pieces to freshen up, a/c- who cares, PS pump- rebuild kit=$20, oil leak would be fixed with general maintenance.
Sorry for going on so long to get your answer.

So what is considered of greater value in a 944, mechanical or body/interior. I just picked up a beautiful 86 NA with sport seats and fuchs, and paint in very good condition, dash and seats perfect, but the mechanicals are nothing special. I could see this as a very desirable car at a fathers day car show. But it isn't going to win any races.

I actually bought my car because of the uniqe factor color, drove it from NM to Florida but spent the next year re-doing all the mechanicals so I wouldn't find myself at the side of the road with something broke.

To whom? I know the answer for me. There is no mechanical procedure I cannot perform on a 944, with the exception of the machine work in performing an engine rebuild. Upholstery and general interior restoration I am pretty adept at. I have attempted body and paint work and discovered that I'm not particularly good at it and don't enjoy it. Further, after living out west, I will never buy another rusty car. So, an interesting car with great body and paint in need of mechanical work has value to me. Reverse that situation and I have no interest.

Mike_944,
Did you restart this new thread here rather than a new one on Rennlist? 3 days ago, you opened this same question.. just wanted to offer a heads up just in case man. Several responders have indicated that $2,500-$3,500 is a reasonable range.. Once again, What are Your thoughts on its value?

"Any bolt I replaced with a new one."
...just make darn sure that these bolts were to spec for their given locations! Very Important!! |

Yea I'm hoping to get $3600 with new paint. I guess I just have to find the right buyer. I always made sure it was the exact same everything!! (grade, pitch, length, etc.)
