Why sudden value increase of 964s
Just looked at NADA Classic Car Values and saw where my 1990 Porsche C2 Cab's value has jumped considerably. This must have happened recently because I check NADA periodically. An excellent condition version went up to $41.5k. Dang! Mine has 38k miles and is perfect so I would place it in this category. I would love your thoughts and ideas on why this happened. Is it the recent interest for air cooled cars? Could it be bacause of Porsche's anniversary celebration? Your thoughts.

Its a matter of demographic.
There is only so many Air Cool and the baby boomer are now in position to buy the cars that they dream about when they where kid. The majority of the members in our PCA chapter bought their car in their 50's like I did. 5 of us that meet regularly (and did not know each other) all bought our car in 2009.

My father and uncle had a foreign car repair shop in the 60s thru 90s so I grew up around Porsches, Mercedes, Jags, Healys, MGs, etc. developed a love for cars very early.

Nothing sudden about it...I was looking for a nice 964 back in 2012, and pricing was almost on par with 993's. I bought the 993 and never looked back!

Prices started rising as early as 2010. The market suddenly realized how special and rare these cars are. Finding clean low mileage examples is next to impossible and the ROW market started grabbing them up draining what little is left here. Look at RSA and Turbo 3.6's they are trumping 993 and 993TT's by a considerable margin.
Both great cars but you will find that the 964 is the last of the true 911 sports car and the 993 started Porsche's shift over to more of a GT approach. If you have one hold onto it if you want one buy it now or you may regret not doing so.

I think all the air cooled ones are climbing but I think the 993 is still a bit behind the earlier cars. I,ve been offered about 5k more for my 993 than last year which is about 5k more than the year before. I have seen the 964s almost double in 4-5 yrs while the 993s are only up about 50%. Am I wrong?

I wouldn't concern myself with it, so long as the economy remains strong these cars will continue to inch up it isn't like they are making anymore to chose from and you will never be able to build cars like this anymore unless you buy a Singer and look at what they cost.

This is happening all round the globe and one of the surprises is RHD cars leaving Australia for Malaysia and other RHD countries.
Getting you hands on a 964 C2 Manual here as a friend found, took 18 months and had to basically drop everything, and be on their in hours of it going on the market. 993 especially wide bodies they have become word and mouth. |

I have a C2 with Tiptronic trans. that has only 35K miles on it. It is in perfect shape, what price should I ask for it? Many thanks in advance.

I fall right in that demographic. Bought my 1997 993 C2S in 2002 when i was 48.
My first car was a 1963 VW bug, but I wanted a Porsche. Bought a 1972 Super Beetle; no cash for Porsche then. |

A question for 964 C2 manual owners. The working-man type. Not the captains of industry.
What would the price tag be for your car? Fully realizing that you may not be able to ever afford/find another one. Me? 40 seems too damn low, price-wise for a sorted, decent one. I, personally, would regret it. Probably go into a deep depression. : ) Edit: I singled out the C2 manual, as that is what I own, no disrespect meant towards the targa and cab owners. Minute in the big picture compared to how many 964s were produced world wide.
Seriously, if Singer restored 1,000 964s that'd be what, < 3% of all 964s left? That leaves lots of cars available.... I believe the 964 has finally been recognized for the brilliant platform it is...

With that being said there are a lot of owners that have no interest in selling like myself and many others I know. Also there are so many backdating these to long nose other than Singer I think you will find pickings to be slim and less plentiful than you would imagine. How many of these have become heavily modified track cars that would cost more than their potential return to convert back to stock? Quote:
If you truly enjoy these cars selling would be a mistake unless you have the resources to pay up for one again in the future.
