Alright, here's the damage from the traffic cone. Can't believe I cannot claim this as a track battle scar.

Pat,
When we were talking about oil temps earlier, I mentioned that I have a crushed line. It does move oil, but I'm sure not to its full capacity. As I had stated, my car ran at the first tick (oil temp). I bet that removing both the A/C and heat helped keep the temps down - and safe. I wonder how cool my oil temps would be if I only replaced the crushed line? Dave

Well guys, as always, I had an absolute blast (although not during my 3 hour and 15 minute ride home, yech.). Chris and Dave, I'm so glad that both of you decided to finally bring your cars to the track. What a great time, eh. And an eye opener for what these cars can really do.
Patrick, it was fun on track messin' with you, as always. And Dan, the two hot laps we did were a blast. I really enjoyed the chance to be towed by you. We'll have to do it again, for sure. Chris, get some new tires. If not, you can borrow my rims and tires. Jack, it was nice getting to talk to you a little more today. You drive the heck out of that car (of course). Talk to you again soon. I'll post a couple of pics tomorrow. Good night guys. |

Had a great time yesterday!
Scott, Dave, Chris & Patrick - good to see you guys again. It was to much fun. Hopefully we can do it again in January and get some more guys out. Scott, those few laps were fun and we need more. Next time you get to tow me. Jack, it was good to catch up a little and thanks for making yourself and car so available for rides. It was also nice to see some of the earlys/rgruppe guys out. Chuck and Chris were setting some pretty quick times. Those two were just having way to much fun playing cat and mouse! Thanks to Johnny and Kailo for another fun and safe event! I have some video, just have to figure out how to my computer and then upload to you tube. Ill try and get that figured out soon.

Guys, I had a great time and I want to thank everybody who came out.
Unfortunately, two of the VARA guys had some mechanical issues which cut their days short. This is a shame, since seeing those no-aero screamers in turns 1, 2, 8 and 9 is really worth the price of admission to this type of event. Those guys are nuts -- and I mean that in a good way. It was great to see so many new guys out there, and great to see the 911s doing so well against newer performance cars. It still amazes me that a stock car from 1984 can cook through turn 8 past the century mark on ordinary street tires with no drama at all. I've got to take my hat off to Chris Tallon and Chuck Miller, both of whom are ticking off great lap times with early street cars. Chuck's been kind of a hero of mine ever since I learned about the Early S Registry and R Gruppe and saw guys taking their early street cars to both car shows and race tracks with equal enthusiasm. Chris impressed me on a couple of different R Gruppe runs, but it seems like he's basically taught himself track driving in a remarkably short time and is now turning awesome times out there. I want to ride along with both those guys next time -- I want a ridealong in Stay-Puff, too. Patrick, Scott, Dave and Chris, it was great to go out with you guys. I hope we see you at some of the future events. The more Pelican, the better, in my opinion.

Great event, Great day and great people.....What could be better. Thanks for the kind words Dave. Chuck is also a hero of mine. He has patiently spent way too much time introducing me to this amazing past time. He has been doing the track/show car gig now for 18 years with his pristine 73 S. He walks the talk, and drives the living daylights out that sled. Dave you too deserve a big thanks. That first ride you took me on in BBII then in my car with me shotgun showed how far these cars can be taken on the track if driven correctly and with respect. Truly amazing engineering and way way too much fun as one approaches the limit. You too were instrumental in getting me to the track to begin with. I'm hooked and frankly spend way too much time thinking about all this.
Happy Holidays all. See you in 07 Chris

Seriously, though, you got a rougher-than-normal ride. We passed maybe 8-10 cars in two laps, at a pretty good pace, often in the corners. I think it was enough to give anybody's stomach a pretty good workout -- and you handled it like a pro. And on an unrelated note, is Mr. Tallon calling me 'Dave?'

Hey! I represent that. If Mr. Tallon wants to go screaming thru turns 8 and 9 at a blistereing 85 M.P.H., I'd be happy to give him a ride
![]() I can't wait for next time, but I do not know when that'll be. Time to take my car to TRE and have them do a leak down/compression and figure out how to rebuild my poor engine. Dave

Jack I was obviously on mind alter-ants yesterday....Yes, I called you Dave and I'm not sure why. Sorry Pal. Please replace Dave with Jack in my previous post and all will be right with the world again. Not real sure how that happened. I knew a Dave Olsen from the old days, so maybe my old age is beginning to kick in...... quick, someone grab a napkin.....I think I'm droolling.......many apologies Jack.
