professional 987S Cayman racing

For the first time in the US, a 987S Cayman will be racing in a professional series.

Glad to see it. I assume they've addressed the power steering and ABS issues these cars are known to exhibit in a racing environment.

I can already picture fields of Cayman race cars in PCA club racing in a few years.

this series is a re-named Koni series, right?

I will watch for it when we in Daytona.

Cheers

We're going to be closely watching the results on that car since one of our LSDs is in it. It's very exciting to see the Cayman start to compete at that level.

I was honored to have been invited to co-drive with Keith Carroll on his car. Regretfully, I don't have the funding required. Any sponsors out there???

Thought I would keep this going..........

At Lime Rock on Sat, 5-29-10.

Great event but hard to beat the big V8s. Even the 911's had trouble keeping up.

One of these races Cosmo is going to catch a break and put that 997 on the podium. He's just got to.

Cayman racing

Did they put spacers on the front steering racks to lower the roll center ?

Spacing the steering rack will not change roll center. You would need to make the A-arm angle up or the strut angle out. Steering rack height changes bump steer characteristics.

I saw the BMWCCA race report about the spectacular fight for the lead/win at the end until the Cayman had a flat tire.

G/A has been playing games with the rules for the 997's. There is a reason (besides money) that TRG bailed completely on the Porsche sponsored Barber event earlier this year. G/A made them all go to sealed engines from Porsche (Carlsen Porsche in Redwood City was actually sealing the engines) They quickly bailed on that idea when all the Porsche teams running GS class bailed on them!! Too many teams spent a LOT of money and time developing their 3.6L engines to develop well over 420hp, then they are all told they will "get" sealed 3.8L engines (that happen to produce less than they where making with their 3.6L engines) That didn't fly!! They gave them back their 3.6L and dropped 50lbs from the cars.

You will see them running up front again, but many of us currently running with G/A believe the CaymanS is the way to go. The new DFI engines will need a few more years to develop (much like the 3.6L engine needed a few years to develop)

(Hi Matt!! thanks for all your help. Looking forward to doing more sales with you in the future)

BGB got their best finish (5th) of the season so far, at Mid Ohio. They were battered and bruised,

Their second car wasn't so lucky.

And Leh Keen put the Magnus car on the podium. The Caymans are coming...

I read the article. It makes me even more unhappy about Grand Am rules. It reminds me why I watch ALMS. I wish the Cayman would get a Cup version. It would be great in the "Challenge" class.

sealed engines

If they ran those ''sealed engine" they would have blown up... allot of work went into those engines to keep them from failing, and your saying G/A just changed the rules, Porsche was the only true manufacturer still using a production tub, everybody else had tube frame, even the new camaro was so slow with the production tub was scraped for tube frame WTF!

This is the Continental Tires Challenge Cup or something. It is not the ones that run with the ugly crap-wagons. This series is still run by Grand Am, but it is more like World Challenge junior. The cars all have their production tubs under the roll cages, and I think they use Continental DOT-R compound tires. The tube frame class is the GT one that runs with the "DP" cars. You are correct about that. If you cannot beat the Porsches with your street car, then make it a tube frame prototype. If it still won't win, stuff a huge engine in it and ask for some rules breaks. Mazda wins because Grand Am caters to the highest bidder. Porsche quit fighting the battle with the NASCAR controlled Grand Am and went back to ALMS where all the action is.
