Cayenne S beats 911 to 100
Can a new Cayenne S beat a new 911 to 100 mph? Would it be close or would the Cayenne S shut down the 911? I got a report today claiming to have done it on the Merritt Pkwy near Westport.

No Way! Cayenne Turbo S maybe, but no way could the Cayenne S beat a 911 to 100 mph. The Cayenne S may have more HP but the 911 weighs 2500 lbs less.

Hmm, lets do the math.
2008 Cayenne S has a curb weight of 4950* pounds, and it makes 385 HP = 12.86 pounds/HP Base model 2008 Carerra has a curb weight of 3075 pounds and makes 325 HP = 9.46 pounds/HP. Looks like "Nope, I really don't think so" is your answer. 3 pounds/HP is a significant difference - in fact, the current 911 turbo and GT3 RS come out at 7.27 and 7.30 pounds/HP respectively, compared to the base Carerra @ 9.46. Based on those figures, the Cayenne S would be comparable with an early 80's SC making ~210 HP and weighing 2700 pounds. * According to a Yahoo! spec for the 2008 model - Porsche don't quote the curb weight for it.

I have had my 04 CTT against a Carrera S and it did pull from the 997S from 60-130 5 out of 5 times. It wasn't a significant amount but enough. I would say from 0-100 it would be close.

http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/911/911-carrera/featuresandspecs/?gtabindex=5 That said, I understand Euro manufacturers tend to quote to a standard (DIN? SAE?), so their weights are wet, with a few gallons in the tank. Magazine road tests are probably "real life", all fluids, with a full tank, maybe some luggage. Some manufacturers might quote dry weight (or just outright lie). Quote:

I understand this was a comment about N/A vs N/A I added the info regarding the turbo as a comparison. If the turbo is slightly quicker than the 997S at speed then the CS must be slower.

Sounds to me like the 997 was just driving along against the S...

You have to love the light weight of the earlier cars. My 79SC that was modified as a 74 RS clone weighed 2390 pounds with a full tank and interior. Could have cut another 200 pounds out of her if I wanted to. With the 270 hp Max Moritz N/A 3.2 liter motor it used to be one quick car and felt so light compared to my turbo. That is one disadvantage to the newer cars is they weigh to darn much. Although It never ceases to bring a smile to my face.
