If you had the problem you would have had it long ago. It’s the modern equivalent of valve guides on a 3.2. Either it happened under 50-60k mi or you don’t have the problem. If it happens later in life it’s worn out, not defective.

Hi
I do not hear much negative. I definitely will do my homework because I want a non tracked car. But to say cheap, no...I see the good 996 GT3 for about $80,000.
Not found many under $70k, I gotta drive one because the clutch and ride I keep hearing as very ruff. I am afraid the 996 Turbos are too plush, some say like a Lazy Boy. Anybody understand if the PCCB brakes a problem ? Or is it a good option, I will never track the car. |

Most cars will fall into the good driver catergory: think 50-75k miles, few track mods, black or silver, some rash but very good mechanical condition. Those cars fall somewhere in the range of $50k's. This is actually sales, not the list and pray. Same thing happened about 3 years ago with the 993TT's, where a few drivers sold in mid $100k's and then they all hit the market. There is a relatively significant bid-ask across the GT3 realm, with the only cars trading either the super-premium 1% or those where the seller capitulated to reality. Only problem you may run into is that the 6GT3 sellers may not be motivated, so they could just sit on the car. We've seen 991GT3 prices crater on good volume because many of those sellers actually want move the car to free up cash, move to something else or get out before they get clobbered. It's highly unlikely that happens to the 6GT3 market. Just stay patient, collect data and look at a BUNCH of cars. Eventually you'll run into someone that actually wants the car gone. Watch BaT as well; they're not allowing high reserves on these cars and they're trading well. |

.....and I've seen 3 cars (all black) trade sub $50k over the past 4 months. All track cars that would not be fun to street drive and all over 100k miles. Honestly neither of those would scare me off, but I'd prefer to pay an extra $10k for a car that's had an easier life. |

Don’t let a little track time scare you. Miles and use tend to be good for these cars. You want one regularly driven with maintenance records.
Regarding pccb the versions in the 996 were early and frankly i don’t feel Porsche got it right until the latest 991. The 997 are ok. If it has carbons you’ll want them inspected for wear. Or just put steel on it. |

That J class racer serviced by Eurosport that sold for $40k this week was well bought. Track rat through and through but worth whet was paid.

Meh, to each his own. I Daily my 04 GT3 and I happen to have ZERO complaints. its all up to what you DO or DON'T like or what you will and wont tolerate. I would want no other car to drive to work everyday. I live in the Midwest so no.. the roads are not perfect and I still don't mind it. |

I agree that you either will or wont like it as a daily driver, and it's just down to personal preference. I think my 997.2 GT3 is probably the best road car I own, and I definitely would NOT describe it as a cup car for the road. I think it's about the most perfect road car that could have been built. Many of the water cooled Mezger sounds are similar to my aircooled hot rod, to the extent that sometimes I forget the GT3 isn't aircooled. I haven't driven a 996 GT3, but I have ridden in several at an autocross. Personally I think the step up to the 997.2 GT3 is very much worth the money, as the extra torque and better engine sound is very noticeable.

350hp does not seem to be the insane HP overkill in modern cars.

I did that in 2004-2006. 110,xxx miles on 996gt3 chassis. I commute 40 miles into financial district in SF. where pot hole 3" deep are common. on occasion I even driven my 996cup car, 997 cup car and GT4 club sport to work with friend's dealer plates ;-) now that was interesting. |
