GT3 Touring 991.2 or 992?
Would you purchase a nearly new 2018/2019 model, or wait for the (anticipated) 2020/2021 model?

Do you have details on how the 2020/2021 is changing from the 991.2 Touring? The current car is holding its value very, very well and can't image the new one hurting that since the 991.2 has its own appeal in ways that the 992 does not.

As far as impact; the 991.2 Touring impacted the value of the 991.1 R so it would lead you to assume there would be an impact on the 991.2 Touring models that are coming off lease. They tend to hit the market at once and dip the price until they find their next home.

Depends if you like the direction the 992 is going. Which interior do you like better, the 991 with old school analog gauges or the new screens? The look of the 991 or 992? I have a ‘19 Touring and I have no interest in a 992. I’m sure you will be happy with whichever you choose, but for me it’s the 991. Good luck either way

GT3 Touring
I’m not sure what you think could be much better in a 992 vs the 991.2 - these cars are already well ahead of a “normal” person’s ability to extract performance that it would seem to render any improvement so slight as to be inconsequential.
If you are going to spend time on the track, I’d say go for the 992 because it will have a bit more power and some neat glass cockpit gauges to monitor engine vital signs. Thanks for buying a manual. Porsche wisely chose to develop a “real” manual for the GT3 to satisfy the shrinking pool of drivers who still like to shift. I’m sure the resale values will be higher on real manual transmission cars since almost all newer sports cars are automatics of some sort... |

I hate depreciation. And yes gt cars depreciate. The thrill of driving the new hottest Porsche doesn’t lure me past that hate. For example picked up a very nice 160k spec’d 991 (not a gt car) for less than 1/2 msrp w 20k miles. It’s my new daily.
So here’s the rule. The newest Porsche is always better You have to decide if that better matters. For me, the new cars especially the gt cars that better is not really experienced on the street. It takes a much higher level of performance to feel it. Part of the reason the last gt car i bought is my 997rs and a gt4. Sold that. Kept rs. Stopped tracking mostly so the latest is... better but in my use case... not really better. Oh, the front end on the 992 cars is magical. Porsche did something crazy. Feels near as goood as my 997gt. And that was a carrera s 992 i drove.... So if it's my money: I buy now. Pay less. AND enjoy it. NOW. Last edited by spyerx; 07-19-2020 at 11:33 AM.. |

The GT3 Touring means it’s a manual, all the 996 and 997 GT cars were manuals.
Editing to say I believe they were all manual, I know the last of the 3RS cars that were manual were the 997’s, like spyerx that is why I drive one. |

How's the ride quality, as I don't plan to do track the car but will do some PCA driving events and C&C? I hate putting out a bunch of money just to see the value of the purchase drop in value. Being retired does not allow me the pleasure of eating a depreciating car.

I have a ‘19 Touring. I absolutely love the car. I previously had a 2008 GT3 for 8 years and missed that car when I got a ‘16 RS and then a ‘19 RS. Don’t get me wrong the RS’s are amazing cars but I still missed my 2008. I ended up selling the the ‘19 RS and got the Touring. I’m totally satisfied with the car and I no longer miss the ‘08 or the RS’s. If you get a chance to drive one you will see what I mean. I am also fortunate to have a ‘22 Touring on order and will have to decide which one I like better. The ‘19 reminds me of my 2008 just significantly more refined. You can’t go wrong with one, good luck with your search.

Although stiff the Touring is not a bad ride and I’m very comfortable driving it even with the sport buckets. By the way I used to have several Shelby’s including a KR and 67 GT350. Great cars! |

I am waiting on the fully autonomous GT3. That way I can do track events and Club Racing without leaving the comfort of my den. Saves on travel and hotel bills too!!
