Nick, only a woman could devise an effective mansplaining filter.
a guy's design would be a recursive do-loop with increasingly incoherent noise until a fight breaks out.

I have sold quite a few cars on BaT and the TMU is annoying. If your car does not have a 6 digit odometer they list it TMU. I had a truck with records going back to the day the truck was bought, detailed notebooks, yes multiple, showing mileage, amount of fuel in each tank, price of fuel and date, handwritten over the past 37 years. They still listed the car as TMU. I would guess they are covering their ass on that one.

That said I think they are a great venue to sell a vehicle, although I listed a car for my buddy, G50 Targa a couple weeks ago and it did not meet reserve,

I've had an acquaintance buy a car on BAT, and let's just say the premium he paid wasn't really warranted given the condition of the car. Nothing major, but I think he felt some mild regret.

Their model is obviously working, but anyone who thinks their vetting process is anything special is fooling themselves.

Also, wealthy people value time over money.
BAT is for the wealthy. The wealthy click a button and get things rolling fast.
Not so much for Porsches, but I see discussions about MPG often in the comments section for other cars. If MPG matters when buying a car, then ya ain't wealthy. And also lots of comments asking about minor items that are $100 or $200 to take care of.

Are there some wealthy people who want a specific car and bid on it, without caring much about the price? Sure. But that's not the typical BAT buyer. The typical buyer IMO is a middle income person who gets caught up in the frenzy and overpays. I enjoy watching auctions at BAT but would never buy anything there. Not so much because of price but because I have no idea what I'm buying. Anyone can hire a professional photographer and make the biggest POS look good. But that's me, obviously BAT has enough buyers to not care about people like me. And that's cool. They figured out their business model well.

I agree on the lack of vetting process. I recently looked at a 993 listed locally on BAT. No mention of The superficial items like sand blasted headlights and fog lights, 2 dime size hood chips, and rear fender rash.

Ad listed all records since 42,xxx miles. A few recent dealer visits; no maintenance inspections, oddly missing the customary dealer upsell inspection sheets. I suspected it needed valve guides or a top end at 95, xxx miles. I had no proof and many in the vetting complimented the seller for an old time ad. The seller had my name and so I did not feel comfortable fully posting my FULL opinion on inspection. Someone paid 60k.

i thought the vetting was better A few years ago with less cars on BAT.

I recently purchased a car on Cars and bids. The vetting is not as descriptive. I bid on it based upon the selling dealers reputation . Also the fact that DougDemurro vouched for him and had happily bought a car from him.

Well we will see how it turns out. The seller has been extremely responsive and I pick it up Saturday.

I will list a car on CAB If all goes well. Less traffic , but only takes a few weeks to get a car listed

Cars and bids gives Pcar market a run for its money. Post anything critical near the end of the auction no matter how justified and you can watch your comment get deleted instantly. There’s a character named Mendels garage that’s been banned from BAT and is now selling his wares on Cars and Bids, with a few shill bidders helping him out he realizes figures or high ending prices on a lot of his inventory.

BAT doesn't vet a darn thing. They ask for photos and any information you "the seller" provide. That's it. If a buyer is interested in a car, it is best the buyer contacts the seller and ask more questions or set up a date to view and inspect the car. I've sold two cars through BAT and both of my buyers were pleasantly surprise at the condition of the cars. They were better than each guy expected. I take pride in my cars. Some sellers are very honest while others take great photos of a pig with lipstick. Just recently I saw a car that was on Pcamarket..while the car looked nice there was plenty wrong. The poor buyer got hosed. Same can happen on BAT.
