Porsche Crest 73 914 2.0 - If restored, what might it be worth??

I have a 1973 914 2.0 that has just been returned to me from my nephew (separate story) and I’m looking to bring it back to it’s original glory. Fairly rust free too. It runs great too. It’s still pretty much stock with 80,000 miles with added Weber Carbs that I’m replacing with new fuel injection. Original color Delphi Green Metallic, tan interior (to be replaced with best match I can). I’m planning on withdrawing funds for the process and it’s end value may matter someday…especially convincing the spouse!

I think you should abandon the project immediately, and sell the car to me. I say this in all selflessness.

There’s some recent comps in this conversation.

If I was to guess, your car is $40K and two years away from being a $60K car.

I guess it depends on the level of restoration you want to do, my guess is 50K-90K. Looks quite nice as is really.

I have 3 of these in various condition. One a GT Clone vintage racer, another driver 70 and a 72 1.7 awaiting some level of resto. The 73 2.0 is the most desirable of the 4 cylinder cars. Delphi Green is a sought after color. A few years ago things like original color, matching numbers, etc. didn't matter much in most of the 914 market. Now they are getting valuable enough to make a difference. You have originality and long term family ownership going for you it sounds like. It's not a $90k car in todays market but if really well done (new high quality paint, solid mechanicals, etc.) it could be $40k to $65K on BAT. I'd ditch the luggage rack.

Wow! Thanks for all the positive input. Better than I imagined. I’ve decided to have the original (still fully functioning) D-jet fuel injection reinstalled for authentication. Agree about ditching the rack…messes with the lines and is useless nowadays. Since first posting, I reinstalled the original ‘73 Blaupunkt AM/FM radio and got the original VDO clock working again (thanks Pelican Parts!). Also, installed proper 165/80 R15 Vredestein tires.

I need guidance regarding the VDO gauge wiring for the brake parking/warning lighting. 1973’s can be a bit hard to figure…I have an extra brown (ground) for some reason. And today, I’ve scheduled an “over the winter” indoor stay at a great local mechanic for very detailed physical.

I like the look of the luggage rack. Many 914's had those back in the 70's, including one my mother had.
