Tough one to value. Such a cool car but the market will be a bit smaller for a custom job like this. My opinion is that it could fetch $80K but I could be off by quite a bit in either direction.

Agree. Thats why I started here. Hot rods are not every ones 'cup of tea'.
Nice, un touched SC's are listing for $60-70K
Fun car to drive though and damn fast, almost too fast if there is such a thing.
Thanks for your opinion.

I was thinking anywhere between $75k-100k. I would start on the high side and be negotiable. It looks well done and it right up the alley of the kind of car I personally love.

Upgraded the front brakes to Carrera, but left the back stock.

Thanks for the price confirmation - I was wanting to list at $95K and that's where I'll go.
I think thats a fair price. All the parts are the best of the best.

I drive something similar and feel you should average the $60-70 SC value with the 100+ Turbo value to reach a good reserve. When pressed on mine I tell them somewhere between $80 and $180 depending on the day. I'll still be driving mine 10 years from now when i'm 85. So.... its not original but there is nothing like driving a Turbo Hot Rod.

That's a really nice wide body. It would cost way more to build it with todays prices.
I have a similar car. Wide body turbo 3.2 and always on fence in regards to selling because I know that once I sell, it will probably be my last Porsche. Just too expensive to build another one.

California is the main reason for the sale, sad to say.
The EFI upgrade from CIS makes it immediately the enemy of the state.
What makes the car even more special to me, it was a father (sons) project car. One son helped with the body & paint, the other helped with the engine and suspension.

We built the car I could never afford to buy from the factory.
When I talked with Brian Rarlyl8 for headers, he told me to be careful: "these cars aren't meant to go 150mph". One early morning, I let it run in the upper desert above LA and at 130 it was pulling like freight train. I remembered Brian's wise words and never tempted fate.

Super stable at speed but it still is a 40+ year old car.
Cheers to all the hot rods out there....

There must have been some context involved when I made that statement, probably related to my own SC/Turbo conversion. It really depends on how the car is set up. Yeh you probably shouldn't try to hit 150+ on the street in a stock SC with a big engine. I did "top out" the Red Rocket many times but it was gear limited to 145mph.
This thread makes me very sad. I sold the Red Rocket literally months before the prices on these cars went stratospheric. I gave it away. 15 years of development, modification and so many memories. It was so much more fun than any Porsche I've ever owned. No idea where that car is now, the guy I sold it to cashed out and more than doubled his money.
As for value, IMO if it was done right (and appears to have been), it should command similar money as a 930.

145 for me as well. Solid as a rock, but I do have an upgraded suspension, and at the time was running a larger spoiler with front air dam.

I took my 2003 C4 Cab with a hardtop to 145 on the open road in Canada. Around 120, you could actually feel it settle downward, aerodynamically. That was so cool.

At 15 years old we stole the ol' man's car (Country Squire 69 Ford wagon 429 11 to 1 compression) and took it to 120 mph as kids. Parents were on a trip to Canada. Ray, my best frien was 16 and drove it. Same year driving my 68 Camaro we passed these farmer boys from Smith Valley in a Ford truck on the way back to Smith Valley. Me in passengers side chucked a large Coke from Dairy Queen through their driver's window which was open and simultaneously said -- f-uck off! It was scary cuz they were like 18 year old boys! My car was the fastest in our town but I couldn't drive it without Ray. Lori his girlfriend 14 years old was sitting on the console. With a 307 diff ratio then and a 4 speed Saginaw we must have topped 130 and scarred ****less. We left them standing nonetheless!

My advice would be to keep the car, do rego in NV or AZ through a friend if you got one and drive and own it in CA. No one's the wiser like the State enemy. Whether you could do that is another question.
