I can not comment on the price Dave, but I think SE is the Factory Flat Nose designation...
This is from Wikicars - http://wikicars.org/en/Porsche_930 "In 1986, Porsche released the Turbo SE - the factory Flatnose, which had been expected for many year previous. The new car featured the distinctive front wings and bonnet, along with 9-inch wide rear Fuchs forged alloys, black painted wooden slats in the rear wings and large side skirts. Power was up to 330BHP, the highest a factory 930 would produce. Interior-wise, a new three-spoke steering wheel was fitted. Colour charts were identical to the standard 930, but the option of 'colour-match-to-sample' was again offered. The car cost a huge amount over the standard 930, but Porsche still managed to produce a fair number - and for the super-rich, there was even a cabriolet version."

Yes, this was a limited edition with all the extra bling and luxury items that PAG could muster at that time. I think it also had a slightly higher output than the regular turbo. The list price compared to the off the shelf turbo was however ridiculous. I think it was something like 50% dearer. At least! Pretty ugly if you ask me.

Assuming this cars providence can be verified... Maybe this isn't such an un resonable price for an unmolested 930 SE. It is rare and anything rare with a Porsche badge will always command big money.
Look at any RSR from the seventies. Some of those cars are changing hands at well over $1,000,000 USD If I had the money I would buy this car and drive it but also spend serious money on taking very good care of it... It could easily see 7 figures within 10 years. That would be one of the smartest investments going at the moment and the owner knows this. Just as a side note as to how ridiculousness car values can be.... This car reminds me of a Gembala modified 930 of the same vintage which was for sale in Adelaide about 8 years ago. It was a flat nose like this one and was a metallic Olive Green... It had a full Gembala custom interior in white with period Recaros and the usual Gembala custom door trims and cassette storage under the dash. (A row of single cassette draws along the bottom of the dash) It had LCD gauges with beige faces. Kinda cool when you think that the car was built in the mid 80s. One of the interesting thing about the car was that the bellows and rub strips that are normally black were "painted" Olive Green to match the car. I really wouldn't mind finding out how this was done. What product did they use to make the paint stick to the rubber and be flexible at the same time? Does anybody know? It was in a car yard on Grange road, Just outside the city... I remember thinking that to modify a 930 to such a level would have cost a fortune in 1985. Probably in the region of $200,000 USD... Plus the cost of the 930 in the first place... From memory they were asking about $45,000 for the car!!! Last edited by sc_rufctr; 03-11-2009 at 02:50 AM.. |

I remember from school days in the late 1980's - a friend of mine's dad was a very wealthy property developer and his mum used to have a GP white cabrio 930SE - it used to live at their holiday house!! Wonder what happened to it...

No need to apologise... When I see a "Slope" I can't help but think of Miami Vice, a very young Madonna and a black Michael Jackson. Oh how times have changed... (I'm 44)
They do look dated now but so did "long hoods" about 15 years ago. It was very fashionable to update "long hoods" to "impact bumpers"... A few years later a lot of people were updating "impact bumpers" to the 964 Carrera look complete with the correct looking Italian made 16 inch alloy wheels. How times have changed... This Board is littered with back date threads... Most of which started life as a humble SC or 3.2. (I love these cars by the way) I'm willing to bet that in 10 to 15 years when "long hoods" have become old hat again the impact bumper cars will see a resurgence in popularity. That's when this 930 SE will be worth big money. But who has the money right now and is willing to invest in such a car in Australia? I bet this car is shipped over seas to Japan or England... Australia's loss ![]() |

I remember this car being on the market for around the same price about a year ago. It must have been taken off for quite a while and now put back on the market.

This car could definitely be a "REAL DEAL" SE. It has the tell tale signs like the 4 outlet exhaust, interiors could be specially ordered depending on the customer's preference. Output was 330hp as correctly mentioned.
I know for a fact in 1989, the last year you could order a 930SE, they were just under 100,000 British Pounds Sterling...-or- $200,000 US. I have literature at home that I can scan and share. Yasin

As for paint that sticks to rubber, I assume it's similar to the flexible paint used on all cars these days that have flexible bumpers (which I think means all of them). That paint is formulated to stay intact when the bumper is deformed.

Gosh, and to think I sold my 1988 factory slant nose eight years ago for the paltry sum of $50k...

Jerry M , I didn't know you were a X-SNer. I never thought to ask especially when you are in the owners seat of that green meanie machine @ corner 5. Maybe deja-vu when the right one comes your way.

Interesting information. Can you tell me what the gauge on the right is in place of the clock?
