86 944 W/Broken Timing Belt
I have no idea what this car would be worth. It had a broken timing belt that was replaced, however it does not run very well since the belt broke. I will be looking at on Saturday. It has 60,000 miles, and sounds like it is in original condition...or maybe not serviced very much over the years.
..........does anyone have rough idea what it is worth?????????? Thanks for any help James |

Once you replace the valves you are under water. |

Why not replace the head? They are not too difficult to find.

Sure that's a good option. Make sure you go through the valves no use installing a 'new' head with bad valves.
Hopefully when the valves bent they just kissed the pistons. Good luck. |

PISTONS! Can you elaborate? I did not even think of it. How often does it happen? I saw the car today and it looked great. It has not run in at least two years, but, I would love to buy it.

The bent valves can nick the top of the pistons and damage them as well.

OK...it needs work, but it has only 60,000 miles on the body. Would it not be worth at least $2000? I will be doing all the work.

Just to concern you a bit more... Once you get the motor running (new used head, rebuilt head or replacement motor), you run the risk of the clutch being an issue. The rubber centered clutch discs fail. And when they do, it will cost about $400 in parts and either 1) 12hours of your time doing the back breaking work or 2) about $2K for a shop to do the work. Despite low mileage, the disc can fail with plain old age too... And when you replace the head, and check the records (the cars been sitting for 2 years) consider a new waterpump and belts... As you can see, very quickly this car has the potential of consuming more money and time than you would spend on a higher mileage but better maintained example.

try to talk him down with the understanding you will spend 2k on parts if you do all the work to get a good reliable example of this car..... the clutch disk can be replaced cheap.... there are alternatives to the name brand "sach" that is very expensive. there are alot of clutch writeups so dont worry too much
