I've been involved with these cars for 40 years and I still get fooled.
|
If I was there in person , I would have looked to see if there was any evidence of a weld left from the firewall mounting tab.
And Gwhite, if you can ever confirm for the owner (remember his U.S. procured COA , does not list spoilers) , i'm sure he would love it. I'd like to hear also , just for follow through , if you look it up. |
The information I got back was that #588 was not supplied from the factory with spoilers. I suspect the spoiler was added by a Porsche dealer so the correct second strut and channel rubbers were fitted as also evidenced in the Freisinger '76 C2.7 #41 which we know had it's rear spoiler added. Perhaps also the attachment bracket was not welded on too well causing it to fall off later.
The second strut was definitely fitted on 1977 model year Carrera 3's with the rubber rear spoiler and irrespective of whether air conditioning was fittted. I have also heard back from the owner of the Magenta '74 Carrera in South Africa who has owned the car from new and says it always had a gold decal badge on the ducktail. Guy |
Well there you have it - thx again Gwhite !
Here's one for everyone to examine (the only one - so far - I've found with race history) : 911 660 9057 / now Willi Rabl 935 below : 1992 Bergrennen Ecce Homo Sternberk ( Willi Rabl / 17th overall / 1st grp. H) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1299371125.jpg You can read more about it on J. Starkey's website : JOHN STARKEY CARS :: CARS FOR SALE I don't know exactly when is was converted to 935, or what is was doing prior. But the earliest I find it is 1989 (strangely with Rabl, which does not necessarily coincide exactly with Starkey's history - he has it going to Rabl in 1990) |
Good spot to notice a '76 Carrera 2.7 beneath all that. In fact I don't imagine there is much of the original there.

Hello Gwhite,
I've been thinking off & on over the last years about the references to production numbers on these cars. The only time the factory actually referances it , they denote only 113 cars (on the letter to the owner at the time of 9043 in 1982 / Stefen Martin. And to me by a factory source). I believe that the first 10 numbers were probably not used , as this can be the only explanation. Could you look up cars number 660 9001 - 9010 , and see if they exist ? And see if 9011 is the first , and where it was delivered ? (or which number the first produced was - if not 11. And where delivered. Thx , I would really appreciate it very much. |
Hi Ratbox,
You are correct in your thinking, I already had it confirmed to me that 113 were produced in the range 911 660 9011 to 911 660 9023. Guy |
9011-9123
|
Thanks for clearing that up guys. I have been saying '123' ever since I knew about these cars years ago.
Were the '76 Carrera 2.7 Targas numbered the same way starting at 9116619011? |
76 C3 for sale in Australia , no affiliation but seems reasonably priced , tempted to have a look.

Since not many seem to check out the :
"The original OEM tail thread collective documentation" I thought I would try to dig up a bit more eyeball from here. Please check out my latest post there. Thx |

Excellence has an article on the Belgian Police Targas. Not much just a passing mention of the 76 carrera. |
I have a 1976 Carrera that I will sell for a lot less. Mine is a 3.0 with the right tail not a Turbo tail. I didn't think they had the 2.7 anymore. Every Euro or us had a 3.0 by 76 I beleive.
|
I don't remember the exact number but there were approximately 110 or so 2.7 MFI ROW 1976 Carreras produced before they converted over to the 3.0 CIS motor.
|
I'm thinking you need to read the thread. But the cliff notes version so far is 113 coupes 20 targas and at the end of the 76 model year run? (late April or May in 1976). Big debate on whether they came with front chin and tail from the factory or if it was a dealer installed thing. No one has a COA or any other build documentation defending or refuting cars with tails. I think we are all looking for the elusive "original" owners of our cars. Any one else want to chime in?

There's an interesting 1977 C3 Targa I noticed yesterday on Dr.Konradshiem's website. Besides an interesting carpet color (Dark green with cork trimings) . I would post a photo. But he has them all marked with copyright, so I don't wish to rock any boat.
Does anyone know in what sales market , a 1977 MY Carrera 3.0 would have a Catalyst exhaust ? The first thing which is listed on the description write up. Is "Katalysator"....followed by Sportsitze le + re mit Mittelbahnen in Schottenstoff beige... So I would believe this is infering that it is an original Catalyst exhaust equiped model. Not , that it has one currently. |

That would make it a Swiss market/delivery car, no??? |
The green carpet is in the 'special colours' brochure for 1977 but I'm not sure if any market had a catalyst back then, certainly not listed in the PET parts catalogue.

It caught my eye imediately , he lists it in a PDF file discription which is on his webpage regarding this Targa (761 0941). And he writes it in the description like it is original factory equipment.
I would post it, but PDF files don't seem to post here. |
I scanned some of the cars for sale websites this weekend and noted that several Carrera 2.7s that were for sale are not now listed and presumably sold. This includes two that have been discussed in this thread:
1976 C2.7 # 911 660 9084 which had an asking price of 140000 Euros & 1975 C2.7 'Anniversary' model # 911 560 0225 which was 130000 euros. I wonder if indeed they have been sold and if so did they make anything like the asking prices which seamed quite adventurous. I also came upon this French forum which discusses the Siver Anniversary one including a letter from the restorer and a copy of a COA from Porsche. FlatR.orG : 130 000 €uros une type G , une 2.7 de surcroit !! - Page 1 sur le Forum Guy |
