Another Carrera leaves the country

Sadly, I happened to see this one on the way to the boat cross the pond. I tried to get the shipper to let me take this one instead of the one he was shipping to me. When that didn't work I tried to get him to swap the Fuchs - flawless.
The buyer on the other side of the planet will be presently surprised - really nice car.

Passion for the cars to keep them here or the greed of money? Guess that question got answered.

You shouldn't be too worried. Porsches go back and forth between Europe, Asia and America depending on market value, exchange rates, availability and the general economy. Now Europe has higher prices, that will change due to the flood of US cars imported now. When demand is met here the prices will drop. When the US is back on track these cars will start to go the other way, like they did in the 80-ies and 90-ies.

Asia is coming strong soon, and in a couple of years or decades they will scoop up collector cars from both Europe and the US.

Smart guys try and make an extra buck both ways, other guys think that not selling one car overseas will make a difference....

Thanks,

Johan

SKYNYRD, you need to understand my position before making such a rude comment. I could make this a long explanation but the short of it is: almost $5,000 more than what I could get for it here on my last car (which does matter in our family) & no jumping through hoops. A lot more to it so if it bothers you that bad send me an email & I will explain the details of my position. I hope to be in your position some day when 5 grand means nothing to our family. My wife is good enough to understand my passion for these cars, I am not going to disappoint her if you can understand that.

Maybe it's just the luck of the draw, but my experiences in sending cars to Germany, France, Austria, etc. is that the buyers are more decisive and quick. US buyers too often have to 'clear it with the wife.' Recently, on several occasions, I'll get an "I should have bought that" email from a prospective buyer in the US -- weeks after sending nice cars to Europe.

I totally agree with this comment. When I sold my 78' SC the buyer sent the money quickly and did not have a transporter pick up the car for a few weeks.

As far as cars going overseas, it speaks more to the fact that we are dealing with a global economy now and less to do with "greed".

If you exhaust all your US outlets for selling your cars and have received offers well below your asking price then looking overseas becomes a reality.

To make the assumption that someone on this board has no passion for the marque and is in it strictly for the money may me a little heavy handed.

My 240Z went to Norway. I had it posted for several weeks in all the normal places, no one in the states bit. Once contacted by the buyer, the deal was closed in a couple of days. Then when I began shopping for a 911, one that I was considering was sold and bound for The Netherlands before I could see it in person.

That may be part of the issue as well, the Europeans don't seem to have a problem buying cars w/o seeing them first.

As noted above - this is part of today's global market. As long as shipping + purchase is less costly or delivers better product than buying local, this will happen.

Who cares if they are in it for the money? Some of the best and most passionate enthusiasts are in it for the money.... starting with Wayne the proprietor of our beloved Pelican Parts....

Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream had a term for it. When I remember the term I will edit....

So true, way to many US so called buyers just waste your time. A serious buyer will either buy or pass quickly.

The flipside is that there are more than a couple of people mis-representing P-cars here and elsewhere. I've had to "undo" a PPI'd, sight-unseen deal across several state lines. It took lawyers, 2.5 years, some sleepless nights and too much aggrevation. The PPI guy didn't participate in settling until the 11th hour and appealed his legal fees to the state supreme court...and lost. It also cost me most of my faith in people selling cars.

Many people are too embarassed to talk about their purchase nightmares. I'd imagine there have been more than a few OMG crappy cars sent to Europe from here...I'd also imagine having to undo a deal acrss the pond w/ language challenges makes my situation look attractive. YMMV.

Seems ot me if I can sell a car -- it is a car -- I want the msot cash I can get -Sorry if that is over seas - if I know the buyer theyn maybe- maybe i give em some leeway.

Selling for the best price is how I got the cash to be in the 911 hobby to start.
