What would you do? Tell me
Hi there guys. Since I have always been a huge 911 fan I am thinking about getting one. The dream is a 930 or a 964 turbolook
There is one thing that I have been thinking. I have BMW e31 850 CSI and I love it. I have put actually crazy heart into and and a lot of love At the moment I am having mixed feelings and some might say afraid of owning 2 cars. What would you do? Give me good arguments ![]() Sell the BMW and get the 911? Wait and just keep the BMW and get a 911 to the collection? A friend of mine said that when I would get the 911 I would just forget about the Porsche. Another friend that actually owns both said to own them both. So What would you do? Here is my e31. ![]() ![]() |

Nice car. I say own them both for a little while anyway. The 911 will grow on you, the e31 is going to be more familiar of course, and probably more of an everyday car.
They are going to bring different driving dynamics to the road, and I bet if you lose the BMW and just replace it with a 911 that you will kick yourself--although you may be able to gradually decide you do not need it. That is usually how it works for me. It takes time to say goodbye.

hard question to answer when we know nothing about you and what you would use the car for
I own 3 cars Jeep DD F150 for utility 911 for fun on weekends and lives in garage for winter I also have a wife and 5 yr old twins so owning just the 911 not an option If you just have the 911 what would you do when it is down for repair or upgrades? many people here DD their 911s but I would not chance not having a back up

The 911 would not be a DD. It would be made more of a track/weekend car.
The e31 cannt be a track car because of its weight. I love to drive the e31. It has this feeling that it is hard to explain. |

I can't imagin owning just one car! One to drive and one to repair! It takes the urgency out of getting somewhere when your car is not working!

I don't really understand why your asking this question
If you can afford both then do it but if you can't then don't It sounds like you're in love with the BMW so you will probably regret it

It mostly depends on what you can afford in all reality. I have 4 cars,
31 Ford Model A (daily driver) 87 944 (daily driver in the snow) 78 911SC Targa (summer fun) 88 924S (first car cant bring my self to part with it) If you can own both, do it for some time and see which one you like/drive more. Only time can answer this question Regards Dave

If I had a well sorted 8 series no way I would sell it. As much as I love the 911's that BMW is one of the sexiest cars ever penned..

My DD is the M3 and the 911 is for weekend fun. Keep the BMW and add the 911.

Definitely if you can own both, then do. The BMW is more a luxury car, the Porsche a sports car.
And that right there is something most people don't understand. If you simply look at horsepower figures, most people will find the 911 to be an ordinary car, but there is something special about a 911, at least the air cooled classics. You won't understand it until you drive it a while. I have an E24 635 and had it before the 911. Now that i have driven the 911, there is simply no comparison, especially if you lean to the sports car side rather than the luxury side of cars. I am getting ready to sell the 635. If you want crazy amounts of HP, you can go for a built 930, or better yet, buy a fairly stock one and customize it yourself.

I love the E31 but with the V12 what kind of mileage do you get in that car? I would have to keep them both.

Good advice here. Because of the size, the 911 is a good second car. I know that many here use them as daily drivers, but you can't really carry four adults or haul a lot of stuff. A modern car will also have things that some people find important, like AC. So, I'd vote to keep the BMW and find yourself an air cooled 911. And then get a jacked up 4x4 pickup with a gun rack, just for the hell of it!
Good luck! |

Those responses are making me feel better.
Both the e31 and the 911 would be my toys. I drive now as a daily a Range Rover Sport. I just dont want one of them to be forgotten, but the e31 has a history with me. |

Keep the csi as it is a rare car and a great GT. Add the 911 as a sports car to your collection and you'll be set. At one time I had a 930 turbo, 964 turbo, a W211 E55 and a 3rd gen TRD sc'd 4Runner. The 4Runner was my daily and the others were toys. I'm down to the E55 and a RX330 as my daily since I just sold my 930 turbo. It is great to have a vehicle for every purpose.
Prior to getting into Porsches, I had many BMWs including an E30 M3, E34 M5 and Dinan E39 540i. The BMWs had nothing on the 911, but was a great complement.

Sell it, move on and don't look back. I don't think you'd be asking the question if deep down you knew you couldn't live without it. Sell it and start a new adventure.

The e31 i own has its story in my life.
When I was 13 me and my mom were going to Pizza hut and I hear some guys talking really loud. I look back and see tha e31 standing there with 3 very scary guys sitting in it. " of them were drunk as crazy. My moms says: come son, lets get away from those crazy guys. Few weeks later my mom tells me her old friend from School called her and was coming for a visit. Later that day I was just playing around and that car drives up to our posession and I just think I will **** my pants. 3 scary guys come out of it and ask if my mom (ask for her name) lived here. I say yes. Then i turns out those are the friends. The adults go and have fun with BBQ and stuff while I am just hypnotised by the car. It is amazing. After many minuts of admiring I go up to the guy ad tell him: When you are ready to sell call me. Years fly by and 5 years later he calls my mom. She tells me if I want the car it is for sale. It took me a second to say: Im on my way. I didnt care about anything. I had a fkn amazing sporty looking car and loved the way it looks, drives and so on. Then the fun part started. I had it restored to perfect condition and now I am on crossroads, because I would like to own both, but the only question I am fighting with is: Should I enjoy the 8 more and save up for a proper 911, or sell the e31 and get a 911 now. |
