Keep the 850. I've always wanted one, too. I sometimes think of keeping my 911 and getting an 850 !
There is one nearby sometimes, a V12 that a car dealer drives for his DD. When it comes for sale, I'll surely consider buying it! A car with history should be kept if possible. I almost lost my mind the other day and put my 1948 Chevy pickup for sale. What was I thinking? .... well, I guess I wasn't... so, not for sale now ![]()

If $ are not an issue keep the bimmer. But beware you may never drive it agian...your attention will move to your 911 with much encouragement from our fellow pelicans.
Also the BMW value will continually drop ware as the 911 will not if its kept as original as possible since they are vanishing quickly.

But there will always be a nagging suspicion that a 911 is even better. And that nagging suspicion is correct.

This, my friend, is an awesome problem to have.
Keep both. If that's not possible, consider that owning a 911 is a very different driving and ownership experience. The real question is what kind of experience you're looking for. I deliberately chose, for example, a 911 that needed work because that's the experience I wanted. Only you really know what kind of satisfaction you're looking to derive. IMO, there's no wrong decision here, but good luck with it! GK |

It is a hard decision, but its not a problem.
Like my friend told me that owns both. The e31 is the women that you take to dinner and eat with and have a pleasant conversation. The e31 is the women you take out and just think about ****ing her all night. Every man needs both in his life. I am quoting my friend ![]() |

Keep her and plan accordingly....
Keep the e31 as it has an extremely rare/cool look, and continue to build the case to own both. If they are like the women you described above, eventually one of them will get on your nerves and then it becomes time for a swift decision.

If I were in your shoes I would definitely keep the 850 and take your time to find the "right" 911. You have enough cars now to allow for some patience.

Well here's my two cents...
The Bimmer 8 series is a great car, its timeless. I think you should make an opportunity to drive the Porsche you are considering. After driving it you may very well decide that its not for you. I personally think you'll never wanna drive anything else after driving the Porsche. I have owned several different makes of cars. I've owned several Bimmers i.e. 540, M3. I've had Audi S4s the B5 and B6 chassis. I've owned 2 Lotus esprits. the list go's on. All these were great drivers and beautiful cars. Between owning all these makes and models, i have owned 5 Porsches, 911s and 928s. I just keep coming back to Porsche, specifically the 911. Its a different kind of driving experience. Its raw, its gritty, its driving not riding. No power steering, no cup holders. You hear the motor working, you feel the road. Some love them others hate them. I believe true drivers love them. As for owning both... As someone else said here if your money is long then put them both in your stable. If not make a choice cause its not gonna be cheap to maintain both these cars. ![]() My True Driver |

Great Post Noa.
I have actually made my e31 as a true road car. It is loud, hard suspension. I love driving it hard. I am not easy on it. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

fatandre...
Looks like you've go the fever for a Bimmer. The 8 is a great car. If you've got it set up as you indicated, then you are a true driver. Good luck with your final decision... Btw, the car looks incredible. Love the Schnitzers in the pic. I think those are the best BMW tuner wheels ever made. |

OK since you asked, here's my take.
Let's face it: the 850 is a GT, not a true sports car[/B][/B][/B]. That car's handling is "sky-hooked" not "ground hooked". The car was engineered with a comfortable, quiet ride in mind. Yes, there's power, but it's muted. The engine is out there near the windshield somewhere. The electronics are over-engineered, too complicated, and the overall feel is robotic. It's a nice car, but it's definitely not a 911. You mentioned a 930. This is the diametric opposite of an 850. The 930 is a 911 on steroids, the experience is raw, visceral and the car can be a lot to handle. Have you driven one? If not, I recommend you do, and then drive as many 'normal' 911s as possible. I recommend you check out a 993. This is the final air-cooled 911 and is rapidly becoming a modern classic. The performance is better than the 850, mostly due to it's being nearly 1,000 lb. lighter. The handling is closer to a normal car, it's quieter than previous 911s and the performance was improved vs earlier models. The 993 is the last of the aircooled, and one of the best sports cars ever made. Thirty years from now, when you're sitting in front of the fire, bouncing your grandson on one knee, and he asks you "what kind of sports car did you drive back in the day", you won't have to say, "well, I only had a BMW 850, but I wish I bought a 993..."

You all guys have a point. I want a raw car to make track ready. My plan with the P is to make a drivers car. Raw and crazy beast that I need to handle. I love to drive the e31, and some of you say it is not a sports car I will agree. Still it has this special feeling when I sit in it. The smell, the feel, the everything. I have although always had the feeling: You need to own a 911 once in your life. Thing is I like the look of the 964 and 930 more than the 993. Some would say I am crazy and I would agree. I am crazy as hell. |

Then you just have to make math and put two things together and buy 964 Turbo
![]() BTW, my friend Kert has a very nice 964 Turbo which has gone a full resto: Porsche 911 Turbo 3.3 B6 240kW - auto24.ee ![]()

Thats a nice one. I guess I will just have to add a 911 to the stable to be fully happy.
When it comes to 911 I just have to get a black one. I fell in love with them when I saw Bad Boys. It was a stunner!! |
