Longhood resto candidate
I'm starting to get the impression that any longhood restoration candidate is a good bet at 10k.
Before I purchased my 3.2 G50 coupe, I was really after a specific longhood that I know to be locked away in a garage somewhere in Canada. It was parked about 8 years ago and left. Boxes were piled on it, raccoons piled in it, and the air left the tires, which are wrapped around steelies. From what I could see through the garage window, and gather from the neighbours, it's a '69t. White, largely unmolested and apparently has a donor brother somewhere up north that could come with it if I end up making this move. I have a good feeling I could get the two for under 10k. Problem is, I'm not in a position financially to restore it as yet, though I feel like it could be a good bet to re-store it in my own shop or garage (once I buy a house with a garage). I know we shouldn't look at 911's or cars at all as investments, but, I feel like owning a longhood will be as hard to do as owning a Dino 246 in the coming years. What do you guys think, deposit ten grand worth of longhood into the bank? Worst case scenario, I get at least ten out of it if I need to sell for any multitude of reasons. Always enjoying the marketplace discussions, Marc Also - I took some pics of it when I was allowed in the garage, but as the car is not mine, I'm not sure if it's cool to post them. Is it? |

If you sure nobody else can find the car and steal it out from under you it is fine to post pictures. Pictures will let us guide you.
I agree with your logic. If you work on the car slowly it could become a deep and passionate love affair. They are getting rare and expensive. One way to avoid getting priced out of the market is to buy a project you can restore over time. And who knows. You may get lucky and get a driving restoration like my '67. My car needs all kinds of stuff eventually. In the short term I drive it a couple times a month to keep the cobwebs out and the love affair alive. |

Thanks Matt. I was thinking long term project that starts with drivability and then moves into an organic rejuvination.
Pics for you sir. The quarters were fairly tight, so getting any decent pics was a bit tricky, plus you're not supposed to disturb raccoon ****. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Easily worth 10K. Money in the bank, only gaining interest.

I'd buy it. And if you can get number two with it bonus points.

Seems like a good buy to me.
The only longhood worthy of restoration I have seen down here in Oz lately was $13,000 for a rolling shell! If you get them for $10K, I'll give you 15k for them.

I know the photos are bad, but I'll assume that since nothing jumped out at anyone as wrong or broken, that it's just a rough old banger that was put away improperly and for too long.
I might have to buy another Bentley manual. . . |

I wouldn't hesitate. If you can get even that one car for $10k, walk with cash ASAP and do the deal. If you can get the other car, BONUS.

Marc,
You can lose buying that car. All the early 911's are going to go the way of the 356 (in my opinion). And the early 911s's the way of the speedsters. Any number of us would be willing to pay you a finders fee if you're not sure if you want it. Ed |

Amazing that people can't buy a simple car cover when letting a car sit and rot.
Even a freaking bedsheet is asking too much? |

That's a buy. No question. That car is more complete than anything I've seen under $20k.

It even has documents (brochure etc) in the passengers seat. Apart form the exhaust it looks fantastic.
By the looks of the body I dont think that severe rust will be an issue - but check carefulley! Dont let anyone here or any place else "re-steal" it from you. If you dont want it, then clean it up and get it running and you probably have a +35K USD car. By the looks of the body I dont think that severe rust will be an issue - but check carefulley! |

It may still have serious rot issues, but given how the rear window trim looks, it is hard to imagine this isn't a steal at 10k.
