I have to agree with this somewhat. Anytime I drive my 71 targa or my 90c2 and I come across another early 911, I'll wave and it will be returned. I gave up extending the greeting to drivers of newer 911s (993, 996, 997, 991). Unfortunately, most that I have encountered here in the Baltimore/DC area just give me a nasty look like I'm crazy. As to non-911s, well, you might as well forget it. I don't think they understand the meaning of being a true Porsche fan, IMHO.

This sums it up for me. Long hoods are fun to drive, and at the astronomic prices they fetch now no one would dare risk it - eliminating the fun factor and desire to own one.

Value based upon rarity means nothing to me (personally). A Sportomatic 912E is likely very rare, doesn't mean it's good.

Edit: I'm also maybe a little PO'd because I am a young man who has been exposed to early car fun. By the time I get the scratch to buy one, they'll have moved further up market.

The book price for a car coming to auction is a vague valuation at best. I will believe a '74 US Carrera is worth $125k when it sells for that.
You never know what is going to happen at auction. Car could fail to sell or could bring $200k. The only sure thing is Monterey will give us a better idea of the top of the market.
And if it keeps going up you can be sure that asking prices on condition 2&3 cars will still be silly high.

Virtually every panel is original on that car. There was quite an uproar on the vintage Ferrari boards against someone insinuating that the body was remade. Believe it or not, they massaged the body and chassis back in shape with only a few small sections needing new fabrication.
The issue of someone dying is hard to shake..... but let's face it, if James Dean's 550 were found and restored, it would fetch the same or more money.

cuz up until now I was thinking my '75 was uhmm $20-25k maybe? Bought it from my late bro in law (orig owner) in '86ish.
Has factory Recaro's & sunroof and script delete. Runs great so Im afraid to do any mechanicals but SSI's are on the short list.
Might as well add couple of pics. I swapped in euro rear bumperettes.
I always thought the '75, one piece fiberglass tail was just the right size and a work of art.
Now it's a family heirloom but six figures may cause pause for thought. lol

A while back I mentioned my friend's Fantuzzi NART was going to be coming to market. Car was sold through RM:
1961 Ferrari 250 GT N.A.R.T. Spider by Fantuzzi | Monterey 2014 | RM AUCTIONS

Preauction estimate was $1.2-1.4M. Auction lasted only minutes and the hammer fell at $925k. I don't see the Porsche bubble bursting, but a lot of the Ferrari guys I know say that their market has started to contract substantially in the last 2-3 months.
