Complete 67 911 motor value?
Hi,
I bought a complete 67 911 motor awhile back with plans to rebuild it into a race engine for a car that I have. I've since moved on to a different race car project and I am thinking about selling the motor. It appears 100% complete and turns over easily but I assume it will need a complete rebuild. It's a 901/06 motor, engine number 911160 Thoughts on how to price this? Since I bought it, all things SWB and "sand cast" have gone up significantly but I'm unsure how much that translates from small parts to "big" parts" such as an entire engine. Please disregard any consideration of what it's worth to the owner of the matching car. I have searched and found nothing on this front and in my mind, it wouldn't change the market value much if at all. Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback. I came up with a similar parted out price so maybe there's some independent agreement on that front.
Any other thoughts out there on what she's worth on the pallet as-is are welcome. |

Care to break down your estimate of parting it out?
I come up with a little less. - $2k for the webers - $500-700 for the exhaust if it's in good shape - $500 for the Solex cams as cores - $1500 for the aluminum case - $600 for the P&C's - $750 for the heads Add another $500-750 for the misc. parts like oil pump, bearings, valve covers, etc. With a full rebuild from a reputable shop, $12-13k seems like a fair number. Maybe you accidentally crossed your estimates.... FWIW, I like the little 2.0 Normale motors. They have a nice rev range and seem to fit the character of the SWB 911 cars well. The 2.0S is more fun of course. But neither motor has much in the way of torque, and the motors need to be rev'd to at least 4k before they come to life. |

$500-700 air filter Intake housing
$2000 carbs and linkage $500-700 exhaust $500 cams $400 sand cast valve covers here is a link to two that sold recentlyhttp://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/showthread.php?101171-FS-sand-cast-upper-valve-covers&highlight=sand+cast $300 sand cast timing chain boxes $275 for the sand cast box covers here is a link to some of those that sold recentlyhttp://www.early911sregistry.org/forums/showthread.php?103260-Sand-Cast-911-Engine-parts&highlight=sand+cast $600 for the alu. fan and housing $800 heads $1000 66MM crank, if unground $3000 for a uncut block $1000 for misc. I think those are all conservative # in todays market probably best to auction items on E-bay and get better prices. I just sold a bunch of short wheel base wrenches for what I thought was twice the going rate ($50.00 each) I had them all sold in minutes before I was through with downloading all the ad pictures. SWB stuff is hot now and what was correct 6 months ago is not today. Best person to buy from is an expert who is out of touch with todays market. |

Here is an ad for a guy asking $38,000 for a rebuilt normal sand cast 2.0l
engine. I think that is high, 25K is more like it. FS: REBUILT Early 1966 Sand-Cast Aluminum engine |

That may well describe me. I haven't owned a SWB in almost 7 years. Lucky for me that I bought and enjoyed my 67 911S+ way before they became stupid expensive and parts were relatively easy to come by. As for the ad you posted for a stock 2.0L 911 sand cast motor with an ask price of $38k, that price seems absurd. 5 years ago you would have paid that for a real RS motor complete with MFI. |

Blau911,
Same with me, I sold my 67S in 2008 and thought I was out of the game. I remember buying "long hood" cars because I could not afford the SC's. I got lucky a couple of years ago and was able to get a rat/mouse ( I found way more dead mice in the car than rats) rod barn find. So I have been trying to bring my self up to speed in todays crazy market when I try to buy parts for my car. Funny I still feel like I am slumming it in my 68S because for so long that is what my friends and I bought when we were young with little money. |

I appreciate the input and discussion.
I think 6-8K is too low for the pallet option as I paid a little more than that to get this motor and there were back up offers in place at the same time as I bought it. A lot of price escalation has happened since then. I guess another question to ask is how much (as a percent) do you think prices have changed in the last 12 months for SWB parts. etc. Thanks. |
