Saving 911s is my business. This car can be saved for $50-60K.
That would not be a wise investment IMO. If you have access to a Celette bench, the proper jigs, a spot welder and possess a great deal of skill you can save it yourself for 1/2 that. The issue is not just the front sheet metal, it’s the rust and most seriously the hidden rust. |

I've got a serious question for techweenie. it's about my 69E sporto specifically. I guess you've seen it on my threads, for I've had it, worked on it for years. I never shared that the title was lost. I bought it like that. Last data here was 1975 on safety inspection DMV (only service manual found in the car showing 31 K) and windscreen stickers faded showing last inspection. Odo shows 42.5 now. 7 years ago I went to DMV with no title from a deceased first owner. They had no data on this car, completely off the radar. I spent 3K hiring a high up DMV official by introduction to get the title. It's a real long story, trying to keep it short. It's a Japanese dealer car invoiced to Mitsuwa motors 1/69. Car should stay, would sell better here was my hope. The bureaucratic process is just taking too much time and laws on these things title stuff more strict due to stolen cars in the past. We've got a number/safety inspection on the car, it's in the system DMV. I can drive it, but I can't register it yet or sell it here offically at an auction. My guy needs more time i.e. this case has to go before a judge.
Therefore, if I export the car which could roll on a boat, I can't according to law. It will have to have the motor out, doors, bonnet and lid off to qualify for parts car export. It will have to go 20ft container @ what 6k? Herein is my question, if it came into the US to a buyer as such, it should clear alright. I have a receipt when I purchased the car, could give one to a buyer. How hard then for the USA buyer to get a US title? Thank you for any insights. By the way, this was the car I dreamed about putting your 73 RSR alloy pornographic bonnet on! It just wasn't cost efficient even though maybe the same light ivory? That's why I flogged it for you. ![]() bernie

Ohayo gozaimasu!
I have a friend here in the US who has set up a process for titling cars with lost titles and/or cars from states that do not use titles. I pinged him on this thread, and hopefully he'll pop in. It's a slightly complex process but solves the problem here in the US.

Titling Cars in the US
Hello 911heaven, thank you techweenie. I have titled dozens of Porsche's for myself and friends alike. I can title ANY vehicle through model year 1994. Please send me an email to: seanmarklambert@gmail.com. Happy to help any way that I can. Best, Sean

I could always export the car and bring it back into Japan after 3 months. All data disappears then on DVV. Start from scratch on an import blah blah. Not interesting to me due to the hassle and extra costs. Dealer car here though with low Ks. If I wait longer, the title will probably come. I don't want to wait. I want to get on to another car. The difference in price won't make any difference at all really. ![]() Have a great 4th of July everyone! Over here just another working day and I did work...

If you know someone in the US that has the car here, it’s easy to get a replacement title using the Vermont loophole.
https://cartitles.com/how-to-use-the-vermont-title-loophole-to-get-a-vehicle-title/ So no-one should be too concerned, as long as there isn’t nefarious history, which I’m sure there isn’t on your car. I wish I knew about this while I had my ‘75 911 as I sold it with no title after talking to the DMV about getting it through MN DMV. They wanted a bond for it valued at 3x the cars value in concours condition. As it was a project and prove it as such I was a little surprised. Anyway, good luck! Did anyone else see this ‘cheap’ 30k mile long hood 912… https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/cto/d/van-nuys-1968-porsche-owner-all-original/7503194686.html Still a lot of money to sink into it to get it back on the road. But I guess $50k is a reasonable call for such a low miles potential car! |

Vermont Loophole
If you read carefully, you will find that the State of Vermont now requires a state VIN inspection. Total nightmare. Having to trailer your restoration project to a state agency has always been the hurdle.

Non negotiable I said and me thinking of exchange rates. He's still on it, may come back and quite serious. If it doesn't happen I will pursue the idea of export to the good ol' USA. In that scenario I may PM techweenie, see if it's possible, based on description and go from there. First, let's see how it goes over here. Thanks again for the help both of you!

Lots of potential there if you can swing a wrench or 3.
The only thing that puts me off a little is the rear arches. They look a little ‘Carrera’ stretched to me. Might be just the angle of the pictures though. I’m just getting quotes for my ‘68 912 SWB coupe to be painted. Just to give some reference, it pretty much rust free (had a little in the pans but has been fixed) and will have one panel welded in as a ‘just in case’ and not wanting to patch it. $24k and 12 to 14months. That is with new gaskets and windows out etc. bare metal as it’s had one respray in its life which didn’t age well… I think that’s pretty fair all told for a not show quality but top driver car.

69 E Sportomatic gone for good
Sold yesterday with deposit to a Japanese gentleman in the Tokyo area, no wife no kids -- pending on the balance. Did I say Glen was good? He had several guys lined up! Let you know when the full monty hits my account. After that not a word left to say about a lone 69E sportomatic dealer car in Japan with mirrors mounted up on the front fenders and original 42K kilometers on the clock, not to mention an alloy deck lid to boot. She was my first Sporto!

Glad you managed to sell it without the hassle.
Hope the buyer follows through, though in Japan, I’m sure that is less of a risk than it might be in the US! |
