I learned early on with these cars, once it becomes decent deal territory "buy it and figure out what you bought once you get it home". I think at $18k, it seems to be a good long hood project.
The steel wide body and still having the long hood front end is a plus in my eyes since that is along the lines of most 'back date' builds currently. Obviously the wide body doesn't help it's original condition value. Gas tank looks like it was cut and welded/modified in some odd way.. junk it. If your intent is not to flip it, then you are not a flipper.. If you buy it and it turns out that it's way too much for you to handle.. sell it.. make money to invest towards the next (hopefully better) car.. this still doesn't make you a flipper.. I was trolled hard when I bought my first few cars and you can't take peoples hate/jealousy personal. Even if you bought this car, and sold it for $5k profit, that really just helps you get closer to your keeper car. If it makes you feel any better, we bought a '73 911E Targa that apparently had low miles and seemed to be in good shape but was sitting for maybe 25+ years for $35k and we just had the motor completely rebuilt by a local pro (hint, it cost more than we bought the car for ) and there is scary rust repairs we still need to do...$18k is an easy pick up. Hopefully the person who is #1 falls through. Good luck!

This is a major project. The rust repair alone will drive you to drink and the potential rabbit hole is deep.
While I respect your rat rod goal, these things tend to escalate quickly. Most notably we get a bad case of the "might as wells" or "while we're in theres", and then there is the ridiculous price of Porsche parts. Also, the surprises. I have always encouraged Mario. He reminds me of my younger self. If you can manage your expectations and stick to your "driver" goals, it could could turn into a cool project. Just be ready to overspend your money and your time.

Thanks guys, I actually posted over in the 911 Technical forum to get some more responses and no one seems to think its possible to get this thing road-worthy as described in "Phase One".
In that instance, most of the "might as well's" and "while you're in there's" would be saved for a full resto down the road. Think a "Phase 1" is feasible? Area under windshield scares me the most.

You never planned to fix it, but now you have to. So with that apart, you might as well replace the battery box and the shocks and rebuild the brakes and get new hard and soft brake lines and new discs and and and..... This is how these things go sideways. Just saying....

The rust you see is on average 1/2-1/3 of what is actually there. Be afraid. Be very afraid of that car.

In over 60 years of buying, selling, fixing up and reselling I learned very early in life "if you see a spot of rust...RUN!"
If you really want a Porsche, find a nice one and pay the price. You'll save lots of time and money in the long run.

Wasn’t there a restoration story in the tech forum about a guy that thought he bought a at least show-car level 911 (believe it was blue) saw a spot and it turned out the car was basically being held together by paint? I will try to dig it up, up unless some else remembers it?

This could be okay, but probably the worst photos I've ever seen to sell a car.
(I especially appreciate the unique "CIS" setup)

1971 911s
I just listed my 1971 911S. I was going to wait until spring but since we don’t have snow year I thought I would list it now and see
I have an Early 911 factory S car! PROJECT! Sadly a previous owner in the 80s/90s “updated” this car. Fibreglass kit, Job was done well but it is no longer a long hood . There is Rust that needs to be repaired. And I know rust is bad but it is lot as bad as I have seen restorations done. Good part isrepairing rust would be the opportunity to bring it back to the longnose The matching engine is gone, replaced with a 2.7 with CIS. engine turns over by hand but I have not tied to start it. Car sat for a number of years so gas is old at minimum . Car has sportomatic transmission (apparently rebuilt for $8000 and not used since?) but I have no receipts so that doesn’t mean anything in reality . Interior modified with recaro seats from the update era. Real BBS Rims from the resto era. This car is a project but you will NOT find an early model car for this price! Especially not a factory S! The last pic is what I think should be done….an outlaw type build. I sadly don’t have the time, money, resources to do it properly. Car is in Alberta, Canada price is US dollars. $22,500 Negotiable within reason. I would Consider keeping the CIS stuff for less $. Pm me with any questions. I want this going to a good home vs making $. I have a 77 targa that I have owned for over 25 years and I would rather focus my resources on getting that one back on the road . ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Some of my projects have been massive upgrades (the EFI conversion and redoing the entire fuel system, redoing the entire braking system, replacing the transmission, new clutch, partial reseal, full suspension rebuild) and I would be way, way less in if I simply rebuilt the Webers, stuck with my functioning T brakes, not gone all out on the suspension, and just "lived with" the leaks but it's really easy to spend a lot of money fast.

This one has passed through the hands of some pretty Porsche-ignorant folks...
