Value of engine?

I'm trying to sell my car whole, but received a question on value of the car w/o the engine. Here are the details on the engine:

  • 1982 930/10 ROW 3.0l SC
  • ~115k miles
  • ~10-15k on full rebuild from the stud up (documented in the ERB forum here)
  • Measured and balanced by the 901 Shop
  • Heads done by Extreme Cylinder (decked 0.010")
  • 906 aluminum air deflectors
  • Matched injectors
  • Rebuilt distributor
  • New flywheel
  • Stainless fan strap
  • Magnesium fan and fan housing
  • New alternator
  • Oil restrictors
  • New sump plate
  • Georges European headers
  • M&K GT3 Muffler
  • Refurbished and painted schrowd
  • All new vacuum lines
  • New t-stat
  • Pressure cleaned and tested oil cooler
  • All sheet metal and brackets powder coated black
  • Heater block-off plates
  • Other little stuff as needed
Now I do not believe that the price of the car less the engine is the asking price - engine price. There is some intrinsic value to the combination being matching numbers etc... But whats this thing worth?

$12-14k; it sounds like a good build.

Do not separate. The value of SC rollers is not strong, so you'll never get break even money by selling off in large pieces.

your car has no market in California with the smog testing requirements... sucks for all us & you. 75 & older make the grade here...

if not for CARB I might have bought your car last month...

Yeah I am reluctant to part the car. I am also not in a hurry to sell it so I can say no. I just figured I would explore the option for the member making the inquiry.

Probably the $12-14K range given by Mehoff is right, seeing as how it is a [self-described] rat rod, but there is a market.

And I have a stock 83 SC drivetrain on my radar that would plug right in...
