$10k 996
Yes, you can buy a $10K 996...
I am selling my 996 as it never gets driven since I bought a 1978 911SC. Good car, hope it goes to a good home. If no one else bids, then this person is going to get a very decent 996 for $10K.

Kind of tempting. But I hate auctions. I prefer to just be told a price and go from there. I haven't used Ebay in years. And their seller's fees became highway robber before I closed my account. That was a big part of it. And flakey buyers backing out after the auction ends...

SOLD at $11,400.
So, at the end of the day it wasn't a $10K 996 but it was an $11K 996.

Nobody has tended this thread for about 6 months but it still gives you an idea. I would have paid a little more than the auction price for a car like the one that just sold. '99 with a 3.4 and unknown crash history dink it a bit.

The 996 does not have the old school interior, smell, sound, feel of a 3.2. But on the other hand, it does everything better than a 3.2.

Seller details more about the car here. Sounds like it needed some work.

Not clear if he fixed the window, air bag sensor, and water pump like he discussed.

This sort of story is exactly why I would not buy a car like this at auction. I said above I would buy a car "like this" for a bit more than auction price, but when the PPI revealed the more pressing issues I would come down on my offer.
Clearly not a car for a newbie. It has needs, like all high mileage cars have needs, some more pressing than others.

Looking to swap out my Daughter's CRV for something sportier.
This is pretty tempting: ![]() 1999 Porsche Carrera 996 I know, intellectually, it is a bad idea. But records, new clutch, new tires. And I think 996 look great in white -- especially with the Litronics. She's a great kid, and I keep telling myself it is $10k less than a base Camry….

Colb,
Funny you posted that. I was shopping last night and came across this little gem. Check out the interior! Too bad he's so high on his price. A little research and he has had it listed for a month without a budge. I can get a 986.2 with 2.7 for that price. https://denver.craigslist.org/cto/5037584511.html

97-99: $6-10k 00-02: $8-12k - add around $2k for S models 03-04: $10-15k + $2k for S 987 are more difficult to chart. Pristine 987S with low miles are still trading in the $20s, although higher mileage cars can be had in the teens. I don't know what kind of premium a "Mint" car is going to bring. Not as much as you might think because a "mint" 97-99 car still isn't as desirable as a later car in excellent condition. They are used cars, not appreciating classics -- do you don't see a #2 car bringing a price multiple over a #3.

Just helped a friend of mine buy a Boxster -- and I found that prices have not changed appreciably since I last posted on this thread.
He ended up buying a very clean triple black '01 S, under 70k miles, for well under $13k. With a recent LN IMS, new clutch, new cooling system, and new tires. At the same time I've been looking at 996 prices, and anecdotally, it looks to me like they have ticked up since bottoming out in 2013-2014. I'm not seeing any for sale under $12k, and those without galactic miles are in the high teens to low 20s. It makes sense that the movement of everything air-cooled into the $30s would pull up the 986/996 cars that had already fully depreciated. I'm not saying you can't find a trashed out 996 cheap, but a decent driver appears to be worth $3-5k more than in 2014, and there are a lot fewer inexpensive ones for sale. The class action settlement and availability of the IMS fix may have cleared up some of the clouds hanging over that generation of cars. If you get a good one, they are brilliant values.

I've noticed the same. Not sure if the bad ones have been parted out, spring is driving up prices a little, or if there is a slight rebound of all things 911?

There is also the seller delusion factor.....even in this market anyone asking over $19k for a 3.4 996 is living in a world of rainbows and unicorns. |

Anyway, I'm not sure I agree with what you think you are seeing. A lot of inventory disappeared over the winter. Many of the cheap cars got pulled from the market and it tended to settle into nicer higher priced cars, with a lot them at dealers. I think in another 30-60 days we will see a bunch of cheap rough 986 and 996 vehicles offered again.
