Dang guys!! Thanks for the info!!
I DEF don't want a concerted cab yuck.. Also looking at an 89 911 that has an ls6 in it ready for paint everything included. G59 trans, 930 breaks and suspension thing is the ideal project I've been looking for but its on other side of the states. Renegade hybrid kit already installed just needs computer since someone stole previous one. Many might not agree that a v8 should be in a 911 but if the price is right then might grab it. If something blows on the v8 it's a lot cheaper to rebuild then the original motor. Almost bought a 77 wide body v8 911 with 915 trans that needed work with linkages and he sold for 20k. Car was very well sorted with perfect wheels and color |

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-marketplace-discussion/938093-1974-porsche-911-targa-value.html Don't screw around with air cooled 911s under $15k. They are just junk and will cost you a whole lot more money in the end. If $20-25k is out of your budget, get a $15k 944/951/968/914/928/996/986. They are all better than a $15k air cooled 911.

I'm not a huge fan of the body cutout vents in the wide body, or the targa. I think I have a few in mind that I might get and in my price range. Finals just need to be over with so I can go out and check these things out! |

ItzaMe,
Do you currently own a 911? What is your goal? Why are you so intent on buying now? Where are you moving after college? What exactly is your budget?

The current place im interning at is making me an offer for full time position when I'm graduating in May. So I will be staying local. The budget is 20k as of now, will be more in the summer but I want to have soemthing ready to wrench on. I don't want soemthing to baby or use as a weekend car. I have always found deals on everything in life and am pretty patient. I'll be in zero debt after graduating and it's actually a good feeling knowing that I paid everything myself (parents gave me roof over my head and food and I repaid them in some ways also). So I think I can find a car that will get me even more familiar with 911's and hopefully when I'm ready for the next one I won't lose my ass when going to sell it. And just got word from another 75' 911 that he would take my max budget number so that's cool and waiting on pics tomoro. Almost exact car that started this thread. |

Also don't want to wait till I'm settled for what I'm looking now for right now. I want something that will be a little rough maybe (mainly suspension wise) when km younger since I plan to have soemthing much better when I'm older

If I was OP, I'd look into a 240Z and when he gets settled into his career, he can add a 911 to his collection. I'm a former and future Z owner. There are plenty of well-sorted/good condition Porsches (non-aircooled 911s) for $15k that will require upkeep only and not big ticket stuff like rebuilds, rust repair and paint/body. $15k 911s are not in good condition and will need at least $15k (and probably a lot more) worth of work to get them just decent.

Problems with that car was that it was missing some interior, wrong engine, welded steel flares, and lots of electronics not working. Would be a sweet car when done up, but would cost some money. Unknown body work and engine work can get weird later on, there were some receipts but they were hard to make out what was done. I have done lots of research on what unmolested 911's from 1977-1983 coupes in driver condition were going for this past couple months over here in the DMV area, ranged from 18k-25k. So a 2.7 bored to 3.0 with a narrow body widened to a turbo body in project condition should have been fair at 12k-17k. It was also for sale for over 60days. Carreras are also not out of the question but you must be fast with the cash, or else they sell overseas. I do like 77's so thats why I researched those specific years.

I personally think OP will enjoy picking up a better car when he's more settled, even if just a year or two from now. I say this since he sold the widebody due to finances.
He stated he doesn't want to be upside down, but there's a chance that will be the outcome when scraping bottom of barrel cars that are very expensive to restore. This hobby is much more enjoyable when you can comfortably afford it.

I saw that car and emailed the owner. The electrical system had me worried and he said the engine was worked over by Air Cooled Racing. The tach wasn't even installed up and down. I thought it a bit strange that he couldn't get the carpet kit installed when it would have helped it sell a lot better.
