The electrical systems in their "as delivered" states (aka - even when they were new cars) is a cause for worry - electronics 101 best practices were not followed at all (plenty of ways to mod the systems to make them safer, however).

Also thought I'd mention it (not sure if you already know this) but the tachs in these cars are only held in place by friction with the rubber gasket that surrounds them. In other words, you can clock them in any position you want with ease (same with removing them altogether).

For sure. But still 18k. Would you have swooped it or passed?

Is that a Boxster?
Second seat would only leave room for Rawknee. You don't want that.

My advice is to change your search strategy. I should have done the same when I was searching.

Figure out who the top two or three indies in your area are. Pay them a visit and ask them if they knkw of a good, honest, driver-level G-body car available. Then reach out to the boss of your local PCA and ask them if you can join their next get together, and ask the people you meet the same question.

Much more likely to get you a good outcome than internet search. Craigslist in particular is a ****ing cesspool. Just look at the ad you posted. I wouldn't buy a car from some ****er who says it's gonna double in money, just out of principle.

Rick, his search strategy is to find a "cheap" Porsche. The reality is that he can't comfortably afford one, since you should only afford a Porsche if you can buy two of them. But, that's his prerogative.

LOL @ the lie about just needing a battery. Yea, he went through the trouble of installing a new starter, but then never bought a battery??

Not running, this seems like a $15k car.

Cowl rust
Aftermarket wheels
Warped front smile
Weird holes in rear bumper
Serious Door sill rust
Floorpan rust means water was in the car
Steering wheel looks dirty?
Seats look very worn
Rust seeping from base of tail (left side)

I bet this car is worse than it looks
I would never buy this site unseen

I enjoy perusing those ads for rough condition examples. Very educational. Please keep them coming.

Yup you're right. He's a few hours away so I'd for sure check it out. Thanks for the input.

Agreed. The medium is not the message. I've seen great cars come up on CL, including mine.

CL is the main way to not pay dealer crack pipe prices. Of course, not all CL cars are reasonably priced, but no dealer car is, by definition.

CL the way to find a local car if you're not ready to be flying to test drive cars for $1000/pop.

The key is to know a good car and proper seller when you see it. They sell fast, do only the junk languishes on CL.

Wow, look at the paint job on that rear deck lid.
Look at the leading edge of the front hood.
I'd love to see more pics of this disaster.
