Would really value your opinions on price
Hi All –
I think my practical side is winning, making it time to pass on my 911 to the next guardian. I have put maybe 100 miles on it in the past two years. I love looking at the lines, and the sound (especially with the M&K) is glorious. However, when I do have the free time to take a quick drive even around the neighborhood, I always grab a convertible. I had plans to make the car more in line with what I love (old race cars). Was going to add a period correct rear roll bar, more vintage style seats, maybe even vented 911R rear quarter windows – give the car the look of what could have been a former track day car that is now just a weekend driver. But that is still not really what I want – so why put the money in to it? (damn practical side again). Sorry for the banter. Bottom line, I have no idea where to start on a selling price and was hoping to get some insight/opinions. Here are the specs: 1977 911 S Chassis: Under 100k miles (98k I think) 3.2 motor: supposedly under 55k miles Body: - Carrera flairs done really well - New H4’s (sugar scoops included in the sale) - Sunroof - Paint is what I would call a 3 to 5 footer. Looks really good – but I am picky and could point out sanding marks in certain light. Hardly a rock chip anywhere. - Only rust was some white corrosion on the battery hold down clamp. It was addressed. - Bottom of the car, wheel wells, oil tank area, rockers are really clean - Passenger side oil cooler vent (replaces marker light). Installed the euro rubber trim on the drivers side (replaces US marker light) to make things look more consistent side to side. - Euro rear bumper Unbeknownst to me (until I stumbled on it), or previous owner and the dealer that brokered the car when I bought it, the car has actually had a color change. The only reason I identified it was dumb luck – I was ordering touch up paint and verified the paint code in the door jamb. It shows the car was originally black. It was done a long time ago, as the last owner had the car for over 20 years according to the DMV. It was a windows out, engine out, “frunk” apart job. I never would have known if I had not looked at the paint code. Suspension: - Pretty stock: Bilstein yellows - Through the body front bar with adjustable end links - Stock rear bar - Pretty sure the t-bars are stock as well. - Front sway bar makes some noise once in a while. Have new bushings, just haven’t taken the time to install them. - 7 and 8 x 16 fuchs. They were chromed and there is some pitting. These were on my list of things to replace. Tires are fine. Motor/Trans: - Stock 1986 3.2. Supposed to have under 60k miles. Runs really well, and is very clean. Passed emissions easily as well. Has the California CARB decal in the door jamb. - M&K GT3 (1 in 2 out) with valance – sounds lethal (stock muffler/valance will be included) - Rebuilt 915, new clutch by previous owner, shifts very smooth - Turbitrol (sp) oil cooler with SPAL fan, Mocal thermostat, new oil lines. Interior: - Car came with 993 electric leather seats. I bought a set of 3 (yes 3) 1977 stock seats with the plan of recovering them – just haven’t done it yet. They will be included in the sale - New tartan front and rear door panels (originals will be included) - Momo Montecarlo with spacer. Original wheel is in near perfect condition and will be included - Refurbished dash - Correct Blaupunkt with a hidden MP3 connection. New speakers in the factory location. Sound is what you would expect from an old school radio. - New Headliner - Everything works as it should except for the heater fan on the 3.2 engine and the windshield washer. Never have even attempted to find out why. - Missing the visors (I sent them out to be redone and the package was lost. I will most likely replace these before the sale) - Driver side seat mounts have been lowered. ( I am 6’3” and all torso. I can wear a helmet in this car) - Carpets, trim, mats are all good shape - New seatbelts (factory locations – look 100% stock) - Car came with a late 70’s era speaker pod on the rear shelf (sounds like crap, but I like that it is almost as old as the car – kinda “fits”) - New Frunk carpet It’s a nice car and gets all sorts of attention when out and about. Being that it is far from stock, I just don’t know where to start on price. Really appreciate your opinions. Thanks – Scott S ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I would just like to say first of all, you keep your car very clean and tidy - and it's nice to see a midyear in the condition of your car.
With that said, there are very few 77s around anymore that haven't been slantnosed, chaired, flaired, white-guaged, and so on. Even though yours has flairs, it's done well. Hagerty puts a '77S Coupe value at $16,900 - which I think is low. The engine you have is certainly an upgrade from the 2.7 no matter what anyone says - so I think it's a plus. The only criticism I have of the car is the Carrera 3.0 badge on the deck and the tail - but it's no big one. It's very clean and very legit with the California BAR sticker with the 3.2 - so that's good for CA people. I would place it at $28K. Some will say higher, but I have seen some very nice stuff around the $30-$35K mark lately, so I would put yours here. |

Agree with Sal's points but I think low $30s would be a reasonable ask price. Or go higher. Doubt you'd find cleaner wheel wells on anything for sale under $40k. I wouldn't blame you for trying to shoot for the fence on this one. The right buyer could pay extra for a clean car like this.
Throw in some tartan seats and upgrade the suspension and this would be a really awesome car. Did you confirm on the vin that this is an S and not a Carrera 3.0?

Putting the original seats and the original steering wheel back in the car and taking good photos will help you get top dollar. I think you could get lower $30s pretty easily if you market it correctly. Looks extra nice & clean.

that BAR sticker is money... I say put it out there at $35k. I don't think it will take you long to find an interested buyer. The car is nicer and more interesting than you make it sound. Write your ad more complimentary and it won't sit long.

Always been one of my faves on here.
Has a lot going for it and should bring good money. I wouldn't take less than $35k if it's good on leakdown, leak free and only needs minor issues addressed. Might consider BAT but it would be tiresome answering all the naysayers.

I sold Scott this car several years ago and he has only improved it. I don't see that you would have any problems getting mid $30's with a BAR tagged 3.2 swap. Great driver!

Two things the car is lacking: a rear booster and T-Rex a/c, other than those, it is absolutely spectacular (even the tail is perfect for it - pay no mind to SuperSexySal's ASSessment of that, as he doesn't like tail

All -
Thanks a million for the input (and the chuckle - I have a goal today to somehow insert the term "buttsnorkle" into a conversation - ha!) Really appreciate the guidance. Thanks - Scott S

That's a beautiful car. I'd set a reasonable reserve and pop in on BaT. Franken911s seem to do the best when they allow "the market to speak."
Each of these hot rods speak to a different buyer in a different way and if you have two or more buyers enamoured with your build, you are in the best position to get top dollar.
