'89 930 conversion in Weehawken NJ
Lemme stop ya right there—he's hoping to get $70k.
Seems like a good car for the right person, but I'm not that person. |

That auction ended nearly a month ago.
Did you buy it or something? |

What's a 930 conversion. Engine is non-turbo correct? Is it a 930 that has had its turbo removed?

I emailed on it last month, along with reportedly half the Porsche community and all of Europe. He got back to me yesterday as he plans to re-list it.
I suspect like many, I was very interested until I heard the desired price. For $70k, I'd rather have an actual 930 with 100k more miles. I saw no bids at $28k and wondered what I could get this otherwise desirable mongrel for. Besides the rust inside the fender, it seems to be a very clean car with a good history. It has been in the family since '91 and he has paperwork for the body work The motor is a bit of a mystery, because there's no intercooler, and there's no photo of the turbocharger...Looks like a 3.2 to me, but he said it was a 930 motor. I dunno. It's a heavily modified car, but it's also a widebody 911 with a G50 and (possibly?) a 930 motor. The dog looks dead; a good indicator of a good dog. |

Thats a stock 3.2 motor no turbo. This was a standard body coupe that someone added the 930 flairs and tail. The car was in Illinois until this past Aug and then registered in NJ. Owner put about 120 miles on it since buying it.
No way to put a real value on it since we dont know much about how the body conversion was done or much in the way of details on maintenance. Its not a $70k car but its probably not a $20's car either.

He lived in Chicago, and claims the motor is 930, though there's a fair chance he doesn't know what that means. He (says he's) got records to '91 from when his uncle owned it, so it's not a huge mystery...I just didn't expect him to get down to the $40-50k I'm interested at, so I didn't bother digging much deeper.

People often don't know what they have. In this case, the seller doesn't know what he doesn't have, leading him to believe the car's worth about twice its real-world value.
It's probably a $40 car in this market, sans the 930 fenders. There's simply no way a non-factory-installed body kit doesn't decrease the value of this otherwise apparently stock G50 911. The seller needs to find someone like the OP, who just wants to drive and enjoy the car as it is, since this kind of buyer is less likely to consider the cost of removing the wide body in their negotiations. If this seller has learned what he didn't know when he first listed the car on ebay, he'd jump on the OP's $40-$50K. _
