Durametric Software Problems.
I recently purchased the Durametric Enthusiasts Package from our host to enable more in-depth work to be done on my new (to me) 997.
As I had a few old computers lying around I practised downloading Durametric's version 6 onto each of these, experiencing no problems in both downloading and opening the software. These two computers ran with the superseded Vista, XP and Windows 7 versions of Windows. However, when attempting the same process on a brand new laptop running with the Windows 10 operating system I ran into problems. The software would download okay but would not open. A box would appear advising "Durametric has stopped working" but would quickly disappear, spawning no error messages. I repeated the downloading process with the virus protection disconnected to guard against any unintentional blocking of the software but to no avail,------the program still refused to open. I then ran a compatibility check of the software which produced a "program not compatible" message. As a further check I attempted the downloading/opening process on two more computers operating with the Windows 10 system only to achieve the same results or lack thereof! To summarise,---- (a) Version 6 of the software from Durametric's site will download and open satisfactorily using the earlier versions of the Windows operating system but appears to have compatibility issues with the Windows 10 operating system. (b) System requirements for downloading/operating this software as stated on the Durametric site include references to Windows 10 as being a suitable operating system. (c) My experience would appear to indicate otherwise! Any thoughts, ideas, remedies, will be very much appreciated. |

Thanks JFP.
I appreciate the fact you have been running the Durametric software on Windows 10 with no problems but from my experience described in detail, I think any reasonable person might suspect the Windows 10 operating system as being a contributing factor to the software's non operation. I'm pleased to say I now have the software up and running but for the benefit of others who may experience similar problems, the steps I took were as follows,---- (a) Although the computer was brand new I opted for a complete computer reset which involved the removal and reinstallation of the Windows 10 operating system. This took approximately 50 minutes to complete. (b) Durametric version 6 software was then reinstalled followed by the installation of the USB cable drivers. The program was then enabled and has been used successfully. Thanks once again for your reply. |

JFP,-----my point is and remains that the Windows 10 OS can present a problem for the Durametric version 6 software. I eventually got the program to work but should I have had to go to the lengths I did? I think not!
The following is a direct quote from the Rennlist Discussion Forum. It speaks for itself. "Default OT: Durametric 6 not working on Windows 10 I went to open my Durametric software this afternoon and it gave a brief message to the effect that the software has 'stopped working'. I tried on another computer with Windows 10 and got the same message. A third computer with Windows 7 (and an older version of the Durametric software) works fine. I've been using the Durametric software with Windows 10 since last summer without issue. I think Windows 10 may have updated and changed something that is affecting Durametric. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and, if so, if they found a solution" Thanks for your reply. |

Interesting. Consider me one of the handful of people who have encountered problems with Durametric. With the help of the Durametric techs, I think we understand what happened, at least in my case.
I bought the Durametric Enthusiasts Package a number of years ago and and ran it from an old Acer Aspire “netbook” with Windows XP installed without problems other than that the Acer was so slow. A couple of years ago my wife acquired an ASUS laptop (i7 Intel) running with Windows 7 (since updated to Windows 10). This laptop has both USB2 and 3 ports on it. The Durametric software would do nothing but crash, as described by NSW911, when I attempted to run it on this computer. I conferred with the Durametric support staff and sent them my cable. They confirmed that it was OK and returned it, but the problem still persisted. After a while, they concluded that the problem was the architecture of our PC that included the USB3 port. Turns out it did not matter if I connected the Durametric cable using the USB2 or USB3 port, it still crashed. If I remember correctly, shortly after this, Durametric added a disclaimer on their website stating that there might be a problem of software incompatibility for computers having USB3 ports. I have not revisited the problem with the newer computer, but have gone back to using my old Acer netbook. Requires patience. I must say that I got full cooperation from the Durametric folks throughout this process. Good luck.

Reading the instructions on the Durametrics site, they advise to disable the S mode(security, malware shield) or the program will not load or operate. They also have requirements of Pentium 1.8 ghz processor, ARM not usable or supported. Makes it confusing if you have a Itel Silver 5030 processor. If "turbo" speed is 2.2 and the basic speed for a 4 stack 5030 is 1.1 GHZ. What do you really have as a speed or limiter of such? Maybe try to download the older program with it's limitations and see if that works.
