If it is plastic, clean and scrub it with soapy water and a nylon kitchen brush to get it clean.

Then try Mothers Back to Black. It will look still eventually turn back to gray but repeated application of Back to Black should help.

I have the gray fade too. There is some paint that you can apply on the gray at home. check out the unofficalbmw forum and scroll down to paint code for gray skirting.

Mothers is sold a Pepboys. It is for plastic. I dont know if your gray skirting is plastic or painted, I'm just guessing.

Also, not to recommend other sites on Pelican because I love everything about it But Bavarian Autosport(bavarianauto.com) has a kit just for this purpose and its DIY friendly...I think it was costly but worth looking into.

That looks intriguing let us know if it works. The one I saw was only $12.

It looks like Pelican sells some stuff too. I know the 88 911 has some huge plastic expanses, like the whale tail for instance, I wonder what the old men use on those.

Restore faded rocker panels. No masking, no spraying! This refinishing kit uses a brush-on, water-based polymer. Kit includes cleaner, high-pigment coating, foam brushes and how-to video.

Part Number Description Price
07500100001 Rocker Panel Treatment
$59.95

Heres the description, they dont have a tag but if you enter your make and key search rocker panel this is what you get....very nice stock change if you have the stock molded rocker panel as I do on my older e36 3-series.
