Is this a factory intercooler?
Dose anyone recognize this intercooler?
Is it something Porsche did on special turbos? Anyone have any pictures of what the intercooler looked like on the Group B 930's? ![]() |

From that angle it looks a lot larger then a stock unit. The size looks more like the Andial unit.
Do you know what the sticker says?

It it not a 965 as the stock AC would not work with it.
It is not the stock 930 IC. It dose look like a factory piece with the sticker on it and being black like an OEM pice. The car I think was an late 80's "SE" what ever that means. I have heard referance that the "S" option may have had a different intercooler. Also have seen referance of an upgrade intercooler for the Group B cars. I have been watching 930 stuff for a lot of years and never seen this one. Kind of might be what a RUF intercooler might look like if it did not have the fins on it? I understand RUF's was made by the same factory as the stock IC. ???? |

![]() That is the IC mounted on a 930SE, available United Kingdom only. 'SE' - Special Edition. This IC the precursor to the 964 turbo IC, available on SE (330BHP engine) models only '86-'89, I believe. Keith, why do say the 964 turbo IC will not fit the 930's? I know of several 930's with that IC on them.

The 965 IC will fit if you remove the AC condenser. The C2 Turbo moved the AC condenser to the front fender.
Picture is supposedly of a 1986 Porsche 930SE if that means anything. |

Dave,
So can you confirm that IC was part of the package and a factory part? There were factory S packages before that was quoted as 330hp I think. I believe I had seen reference to a different IC but never have seen any pictures or documentation of such a pice. |

That car has the look of an SE: Euro bumper/lights with exposed air bipass valve, larger OEM intercooler and 4 tailpipe muffler. I've seen grainy old photos of these but never a modern digital picture.
Whos car is this?

It was a factory part on the 930SE's. If you look at the pic closely, you will see the condenser in the tail.
The 330BHP engine was available only on the Sonderwunsch (Special Wishes) and 930SE cars. The new 964 IC IC was not available until '87, I believe. The 930 S's had the standard engine, 282/300BHP. Same IC as all the 930's.

Good info guys. Just saw that picture on a show me your best butt thread.
The 965 3/4 length intercooler did not appear until the 1991 C2 turbos and was a 'long neck' design with the Bosch BOV. Found another picture on the web of what seems to be a rare part. ![]() |

Found the following amoung an advert so not sure it is 100% accurate though it sounds right.
"The power was uprated from 300 -330BHP from higher lift camshafts, revised four oulet exhaust system, higher boost pressure and a larger intercooler. The total production run of these cars in both RHD and LHD form from 1981 -87 is believed to be 237 with just 85 being produced under the official Porsche Exclusive Programme." |

Thinking the SE intercooler and muffler are basically the same as what RUF was using. Both probably sourced from Porsche OEM manufactures.
Interesting stuff! |

Don't confuse anything Ruf was using with what Zuffenhausen was doing. Ruf was doing things outside of what Zuffenhausen was designing. Ruf was working with Mahle, KKK, Bosch and camshaft manufacturers, to name a few, enhancing the drivetrain.

Dave,
What you say about boost makes sense. Expecially if making 330hp. Not sure about the muffler not exiting both sides but that is just guess to. I read the early "S" HP kit used another turbo. Are you sure the SE turbo was the 7006? It dose feel right except I would think but that might put it at a higher HP than 330hp even with stock boost. |
