Turbo owners.....collective spool data
I'm collecting data here that I need for a long term, ground up P-car project I'm building and can use a good post from all Turbo owners regarding your engine RPM vs full boost spool time(lamens = at what RPM do you see your full boost setting). There's nine specific variables I'm looking for so if you could take a moment to fill me in I'd greatly appreciate it.
1) Engine displacement 2) Turbocharger used(Model, custom wheel trims, divided housings..... please note these details if applicable and known) 3)Max boost pressure and what RPM achieved 4)Camshafts being used 5)Exhaust system on your car 6)Year/model transaxle in your car(custom ratios? please note) 7)Stock or LWFW 8)EBC, MBC, or direct line to wastegate 9)SP or TP ignition. I'm specifically looking for larger displacement(3.6L+), large single turbo setups, but ALL information is helpful. I want to try and keep the posts clean with direct information to the list above, and on-topic. Helps me sort the information easier, and makes for a nice info-specific post to look back on for anyone else that may be in need of this type of information. Questions(if any) ask away, just drop them BELOW your list of variables on your post. Again, greatly appreciated ![]()

This is a boost curve for K27 7200 vs. "standard" K27. It sits on otherwise stock 3.3L CIS engine (off a 964 3.3T):
![]() And yeah, If you plan to make a scientific model of spool behaviour by collecting other people data, you might find that your results differ. There are just too many variables. It's not only turbo sizing vs. engine volume, it's also ignition timing, header geometry, shaft inertia, plenum geometry etc etc.

Guys, much appreciated. Please keep this flowing if there are more of you out there. The dyno sheets are in particular a great aid.
This data is being used as a visual ballpark right now to help me determine what powerplant I will use in this project, and thus what my next course of action will be. It's understood (by me) that this information is a shot in the dark for any sort of true tuning, and is just solely for me to find out how the general "tuned" turbo public runs. Start the search big, narrow it from there out ![]() Thanks again

I don't know how valuable this info will ultimately be. As Goran stated, there are too many variables that are not listed.
A buddy of mine recently went through an extremely thorough tuning of his 930 engine which ran well at the time. Being a perfectionist he knew there was more. In the end he picked up ~40HP and dropped his lag 600RPM - all by tuning the ignition and fuel.

Very good point, and one to heed for sure.
Control the leanness for safety - and the richness for power - and result in an AFR that is relatively level can lead to prety decent power gains, safety and better mileage. For not terribly much money. But...it will take patience and time. For me it was this: Adjustable WUR RPM solenoid to control lower (3,200 to roughly 5,000) RPM full boost extreme richness.
