I don't want a cage because this is my daily driver...
And just because i'm going to take the car to over 200mph does not mean I need a cage. Its not a race car but a light weight street going GT. In my honest opinion I don't want to survive a crash at 200+, because unless I'm wearing a HANS, a cage is not going to save me anyways. Eventually I will install a roll bar for the rear and reinforce the front suspension points when I do decided to turn her into a DE car, but not now. Thanks for the kind words on the project, I'm glad so many take delight in the build, it certainly has become an obsession. |
Any chance this car could see the inside of a wind tunnel?
Cool project BTW |
Well if someone knows where to get windtunnel time on the cheap (see under $5k per hour) then yeah :)

How about taping yarn all over the place and have a buddy film it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1223338202.gif

Do the Vitolani Sebring mirrors fit in the quarter glass like a 935 mirror or were the designed to fit just on the door or fender?
|
They could fit the quarter glass with some two sided 3M tape but I wanted to be true to the original in just about everything but the seats and tail :)

You'll have to do the Texas mile, video of this car doing that would make my year! 850hp and what? 1300kgs if that..... DANG. |
We're shooting for 1,150kg.....and yes we're doing the Texas Mile...and we're going to see what she'll do top end this trip home :)
Somewhere around 3 lbs (1.35kg) per horsepower at the wheels will be the final result. |
Yeah Baby!! Very very cool.
|
Not that it matters any, but the headlamp position is not DOT legal ... ;) HA!
Looks like I've got to get the Posermobile ready for a trip to the mountains to run with the big dogs. Honestly though, I don't think the Dragon is a good venue for your car. Too wide and powerful. Honda 2000s and Miatas rule the Dragon, motorbikes are everywhere. A 914/6 would be great fun there. |
Brian, I don't know what you're talking about man! The headlights are "at least" 24" from the ground....
Suspension will be arriving in three days: Raised front (19mm) spindles RSR threaded struts front and rear (but no coilovers yet until she's a track whore) Front Tbars are 22mm gun drilled Rear Tbars are 28mm gun drilled New ball joints (OEM) New rear sway bar Elephant racing 935 chassis brace (being installed now) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1223446696.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1223446789.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1223447084.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1223447192.jpg |
Simply Beautiful! The number of UFO sightings are going to increase xcountry for november-december!
Gab, you may want to consider going at least to rear coilovers now. These guys make a great kit for practically nothing that makes sense to put on now while the suspension is being done. http://www.rebelracingproducts.com/Suspension/Steering.html With the kind of HP that engine is making, you will definately need some extra support in the rear for cornering and acceleration. I'm putting #200 lb springs on with stock T-bars due to accel squat. Call Clint at Rebel Racing, super nice guy who will make some recommendations. They make a great rear 935 plate too;) |
just went though all thread and I only have to say... WOW! A truly amazing work, and I love your color choice ;)
|
I agree, i have less power (around the 500 mark) and the squat is ridiculous! I have the full coil over set up here in a box ready to fit, it came from Rebel Racing too and it looks great, Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs etc, all very nice looking stuff!

+1 on at least coil over helpers from Rebel.
|
A couple of quick thoughts:
-Make sure they install the mirrors in the right location. The driver side looks too far back and the passenger side doesn't mount in the same location as the drivers side. -Get the coil overs. They're cheaper and make ride height and corner weighting much easier. -Looking at the Rebel Racing site, you may need the bump steer kit for the lowered spindles. -Did you decide on sway bars or did I miss it? -I know it's your DD, but think about a custom cage. I can't recall if you have FG or CF doors and if you do, you have no side protection. We'd hate to lose a good friend. |
Thanks guys...on the coil overs, we're using the RSR setup (I think its from Clint) with threaded bodies (font and rear) that will allow a spring setup in the future my main concern right now is cracking the towers etc. We'll most likely have helper springs put on in the rear for the trip.
For now I want to see how she is with the RSR's all around (with bump steer kit) and beefed up sway bars. She's going to require some changes in the future but I want to experience the full transition. On the mirrors they set them up with line of sight in the driver seat and Fred is my size so they should be just right for me. The doors are now being sent to the body shop to get the holes closed up (I was thinking about 993 aero mirrors for a minute). My doors and hood are steel - so no side protection was lost...that was a big one for me. Thank you for the concern...its nice to know i'm regarded as a friend of the community.
