Pm sent. I think it's a great idea. Now we can have/get more info out there about these limited number originals and the variations , some that "taking artistic license" of design would apply. All descendent's in design from the racing 935 development whose origins were in the "930 project".

On the other hand, having owned and 87 factory 930S. I can confirm that mine were not wood... I can further confirm that the vent vanes on my present car are not wood.. they are of a resin or epoxy material. My vents and fenders etc.. are factory parts as installed by AJ Racing in 87-88 As a matter of fact, I removed them last week to refinish and have a clear bra material installed in the leading edge, and on both sides of the opening. Hope that helps..

Again Dave.. Nice work uncovering this and great photos!
The red car with the grey stripes seems to get a lot of ink.. I've seen that one numerous times in several of the British Porsche magazine and a couple others.

Onboost: Based upon your comments I went out and tapped on the vanes of my 87...and they feel like they're made out of something other than wood....some sort of epoxy? They don't have that wood clunk to them....more of a tick-tick of plastic.....how's that for a technical explanation?

I have had termites near my garage but have yet to find one lusting for my 930 slats. Maybe they have an epoxy coating ?

Along with the pictures you all have enjoyed viewing, I received 4 news letters from Porsche Club-Great Britain. I recompiled the information and present the information below.
************************************************** ***************** 930 Turbo SE Register Phil Clark & Barry Smith Build Codes These are normally on the under bonnet sticker and in the service book along with the chassis number, engine and transmission type and body colour code, 9999 as a colour code indicates special colour to sample. C16 is the first and sometimes only code recorded particularly on early cars this indicates that the car was built to U.K specifications, i.e. right hand drive, white side lights at the front, windscreen wipers that park to the right, door mirrors positioned for R.H.D, (drivers side further forward than the passenger’s side) engine type 930/66 e.t.c. M Codes - Standard equipment These follow on after C16 as three numbered codes indicating the equipment that the factory built onto the cars as a mater of corse Recoil bumpers 058 Heated passenger seat 139 Heated and adjustable passenger door mirror 261 Heated drivers seat 340 Electric sun roof 650 Limited slip differential 40% 220 Blaupunkt Toronto stereo and CD player 330 M Codes – Optional equipment Usually specified by the customer again taking the form of a three numbered reference. Sports seat left with electric hight adjustment 383 Sports seat right with electric hight adjustment 387 Z Codes/ Z antrag in Porsche speak As fare as we know these codes indicate modifications to the specification of the standard cars equipment and act as a jobs list at the factory. An example is Z 04107 this indicates the fitment of Dunlop tyres of 205/55 VR 16 to the front and 225/50 VR 16 to the rear (due to power increase of the engine) others deal with trim in a specific colour, full leather interior, wheels painted in body colour etc. This completes the coded information on the labels, but has anyone noticed that there is no reference that the car is in fact an SE (all the info in this article is taken from Phil Clark’s 1986 car) for all the entire list tells we could be looking at any ordinary 930, (don’t mean to suggest that any 930 is ordinary in any way). Don’t worry if your car dose not match remember that no two are exactly the same indeed we are aware of one car that has in excess of four hundred standard and special wish options. The only time any reference to an SE is maid on these labels is when M code 506 appears, this is the designation the factory gave the slant nose in 1987 model year when it became a limited production model some of these cars had all the body and engine mods of the SE but with a standard Turbo interior, Special wishes built cars usually did not carry any such code no mater what model year. (Confused! you will be) If anyone has got any substantiated Z code information we would be happy to receive it as definite info is proving difficult to pin down. More next month on Special Wishes Options for the SE. ************************************************** ***********

930 Turbo SE Register Phil Clark & Barry Smith LAST 930 Speaking of the last built, the last 930 Ever built by Porsche just happens to have been an SE cabriolet, built for a very demanding and I dare say very wealthy American customer, the car often refired to as The Black Bird or The Manhattan Car carries a plaque signed by Dr Ferry Porsche that authenticates its last built status, the car obviously finished in black also boasts over 400 Special wish options on top of the standard build items, apparently the options list filled fourteen pages of the order form and took eighteen months to complete, the car appears in several publications and is described in detail in the February 1992 addition of Excellence magazine, and the book Top Ten Porsche Six Cylinder Super Cars by Henry Rasmussen I.S.B.N.1-879301-02-4. Special Equipment Continuing on from last month with the options and build codes we have come to the parts that make the Slant Noses into distinctive and very individual machines, the S.O.W parts, presumably Special Order Wishes these parts represented by codes take the form of three numbered references and as last month are as they appear on Phil’s car. S.O.W. CODES 010 Front body Slant Nose Conversion with retractable headlamps. 011 Extended Box Sill Panels. 012 Rear Wing Air Ducts. 013 Front Wing Air Vents (7 louvers each side). 025 Up-rated Engine (330 bhp) including 4-outlet exhaust 115 Steering Wheel (ATF 3 Spoke type F) in blue leather. 123 Centre Consul (Type B) in blue leather. 131 Leather Gear Lever Nob in blue. 140 Fold Down Cassette Holders in blue leather. Chassis Enquiry As a rule the S.O.W. codes don’t appear anywhere on the car, usually only coming to light on a chassis enquiry made to the Factory through the Warranty Department at Porsche Cars G.B, they require proof of ownership and they may make a charge, in the first instance contact can be made on 0118 930 3666 don’t be surprised and disappointed if you make this enquiry and you only receive standard 930 information back, to avoid this make sure that you stress that your enquiry is about an SE and that you require full information with codes for the options and conversion for your chassis number. If you make this enquiry and get a result don’t forget to let us know so we can update you cars entry on the register, this goes for any information that you may turn up as we are attempting to get chapter and verse on each car. The list above is what was specified when this car was ordered new, and was very much down to the personal choices of the original owner, as was the case with each and every special wishes car, this fact alone went a long way as to what made each 930 SE unique. ************************************************** *************

I don't know about you guys, but this sounds like the trip of my dreams!
![]() ************************************************** *** 930 Turbo SE Register Phil Clark & Barry Smith Factory Archive Sunday the 3rd of April saw the start of our long anticipated trip to the factory archive, after a very pleasant overnight crossing from Hull we arrived in Rotterdam at 8am Monday morning and headed south into Germany, arriving at the Hotel Adler in Asperg near Stuttgart 427 miles and 7hrs later. Tuesday morning at the allotted time of 9.30 am saw Barry and I checked thru Security and escorted to Porsches Historical archive to meet its manager and club honorary member Mr Klaus Parr, over the next 2days this was our base as we searched for answers to our many questions through the archive files, it was to become apparent that the problems that we as a register have with gathering information surprisingly are the same at the archive with very little being available on individual cars.in the afternoon we were treated to a tour of the production buildings and observed the assembly of new Boxster and 997 models. On Wednesday we were joined by Jens Torner another Archive staff member who had produced a list of reference numbers that were relevant to the slant nose project and allowed Barry and I to go through the masses of photo negative of the work photo files of the period, working on a back lit viewing table with the aide of the reference list we were able to tracked down a good selection of rare slant nose production photo negatives that will be process and digitised by the Archive and then forwarded on to the register in due corse. At lunchtime we met up with Volker Spannagel who is one of the club co-ordinators at Porsche and is also an honorary member of our club and the person that had arranged our visit, over lunch we discussed in depth the aims of our register with various ideas being exchanged for future development one of which will allow the register to forward questions direct to the now retired head of the then Special Wishes Department Mr Sprenger who was responsible for the entire Slant Nose project, we had hoped to meat Mr Sprenger on our visit in order to gain his personal insights but due to previous commitments he was unavailable. After lunch Barry and I were treated to a unrestricted tour of the Special Wishes Department and restoration workshops at Werk 1, now known as “Porsche Exclusive” this is the very same place that the work of producing the Slant Noses in the 1980,s was carried out and continues on with the current models of today still allowing the creation of some very individual machines. It was not just new cars being worked on as Porsche offer a full range of repair and restoration services from this building, indeed at the time of our visit we saw five 959 waiting for service, a 904 was having its four cam engine rebuilt a 906 had just undergone a full restoration and a 356 speedster was just receiving final hood trimming, it to the recipient of a full restoration, in the body shop another 356 speedster was undergoing a bare metal body rebuild mounted up on a body jig to ensure correct alignment, along side of all this the day to day repair and servicing of the fleet of cars that the Porsche employees and the press department use means that the workshops are always busy. All to soon it was time to return to the archive department for one last search and in the late afternoon we made our goodbyes and headed north our destination Essen for the Techno Classica Show beginning the next day, (Essen Report next month), Barry and I would just like to take this opportunity to personally thank all those within the club and especially the staff at Porsche AG that have worked to achieve what for us and the register can only be described as the trip of a life time, thank you one and all The Register Expands As the Register Director reported last month the 930 Turbo SE Register has been requested to incorporate the UK spec 930 Turbo LE into its ranks and to produce the same detailed record and insight into these equally rare machines (only 53 built) that we have applied thus far into researching the 930 Turbo SE, Barry and I are more than happy to accommodate this request and owners of C16 930 Turbo LE models that wish to do so should get in touch. Speaking of C16 just to add to the piece that Barry and I put together in March on the subject of country codes that appeared as an article in last months issue of PP, interestingly when we were being shown around the production line on our visit to the factory we observed the many automated carts towing racks of mixed parts following the painted lines on the floor to various points on the production line arriving “ Just In Time” to be assembled into the cars being built, the labelling on these parts took my attention as the first number that appeared on the labelling in every case was the C numbered country code then the commission number for the vehicle that the parts were assigned to, so even before the cars are assembled country code designation is taking place underlining the importance that Porsche place on this practice of vehicle identification. ************************************************** ************ End of compilations. Hope you all enjoyed reading these as much as I did.

Dave: Commendable effort and very interesting read. You filled in some of the questions I had about the Porsche mystique. I...as well as a lot of other folks who read your writeup appreciate the time, effort, and expense you went through to give us some insight into little known facts.
Chuck

After reading Porsche Club-GB's writeup on parts used in the slantnose projects, I went out to the garage and looked at the original sill skirts that I had on the shelf. Remarkably, one such part did have a part number on it. It was found on the support bracket for sills. Part #212.92.302

Great work guys,
Sorry I have been silent but my Apple took a dump and I have been sans computer for over a week with just brief opportunities to get on my sons laptop. I just want you to all know that I have been pursuing a registry (still thru PCA) and may have some feedback within a few weeks. I will keep you posted. At least I have a friend on the National Staff who is willing to bring up the topic at an upcoming meeting. Threads like this one and info from and by the folks in GB may have an influence....
