The first and 3rd consoles are the same.. different face plate, of course the firs pic also has the side pieces. Some of these side pieces contained the Fischer C box, (cassette holder).

Although the catalog show these.. I do know that other styles or options were available and I've seen some. Sonderwunsch was clearly not limited to what was shown in a catalog.. it was primarily only limited to your wallet.

I know (also seen the car) of one program car where the owner had every screw and recessed washer in the interior covered in leather, amongst the other "special whishes" items he requested.

I've read through this thread over the last few days after a friend's dealership picked up a Slantnose and I wanted to learn more about them (most of my Porsche knowledge and interest is in pre-73 models). In return for the wealth of info I've gained, I felt I should share the car that spurred my search.

As you guys know, I stupidly sold my 505 last yr. Current owner isn't ready to sell it back.......yet!
Until he comes to his senses I was thinking about this dealer conversion done by Allen Johnson in Ca back in the day, prior to delivery w all oem parts.
1 owner, meticulously maintained, tons of records, all stock except radio and a catback, 70ish miles, mint...
Do you guys think the value on these will increase? Clearly not all conversions are the same, this one is almost indistinguishable from a 505/6.

Thanx!

i believe Alan Johnson used all OEM parts. although its not a true slant nose in that it was built in the motherland i can't imagine how there is not value there. i can't imagine how you can go wrong, beautiful car!

I think that a quality conversion will do as well as a factory conversion given that the entry price of the factory conversion is generally higher. The investment potential is as much about what you pay up front as it is about a factory slant vs. an Alan Johnson, RUF, or other quality upgrade vendors. There will always be those who want the factory slant for collectability purposes but driving the car will dampen those investor types.

That appears to be a pretty sweet ride! If you can get into it for the price you want, that looks like a winner! They ain't getting cheaper whether they are a factory slant or not.

I paid $32k for my Ultra-Smith/RUF Conversion and I think that it would go for $45-$55k. I keep telling the wife that in 2.5 years the Porsche blew away my 401K !! She ain't buying it but the math doesn't lie.

1986 Ultra-Smith/RUF Slantnose

TT I'd wait for a 505 car, they're out there, you just need some time and patience. The value and collectability is worth the wait compared to a conversion. I'm assuming this wont be your 'driver', and will surely be your 'baby' like your previous car. Good luck, keep searching.

Mark, I'd buy your car in a second for 45, tell that to your wife!

There is definitely value there, especially with the use of OEM parts

That to me makes the assumption that the purchase of one of these cars is based on
"value and collectability." What about enjoyment of use.. after all, its just a car right? Albeit a special car.

I tend to agree w on boost, the best part of the 930 experience atbleast for me is the scooting around in it on the weekends. I vould never havevne of these cars and not drive. I'd love to have a 505 again, and will, but these Allan Johnson cars are pretty special too a this one will surely scratch the itch.

Tt.. by the way, that car you're looking at is gorgeous! If it fulfills the need, and checks out ok, I think you should move on it.

There was what I like to call a sister car to mine for sale her on Pelican about a year and half ago. I call it a sister car as it too was an Alan Johnson Racing slantnose conversion and shared many of the same options as my car such as the console, the Recaro model "C" seats, the original version of the 930S steering wheel that came in the Special Wishes cars etc..

I know haw that its can be as I've had 3 slantnose cars in total at this point,

- a 77 930 that had a custom conversion done to a high level. (long sold, which I still had it to convert back to stock)

- an 87 930 Row Special Wishes car (which was really a nice car)

- My current 930 which is an Alan Johnson Racing slantnose conversion It is far from stock, but I like this one much more than the other two I was fortunate enough to own. This one is also #2 of the 78 U.S. 930 production run with a build date of 9/77.
