930 Color codes help
Hello
I just bought a 1976 Porsche 930 from CA. The car is in a mint condition, but there is one thing that is strange. The plate located by the drivers door shows the number 700 9-2. The car is born black with blue carpet. I bought the book 911, 912E & 930 by Mark S. Haab. I can’t get the numbers right? The color black were the number A1 A1. I can’t find the numbers 9-2? The seats are black leather and the side panels are black leather. The VIN of the car is 9306800480 Can anyone please help? There were 530 US 930s built that year, according to Patrick Paternie's Porsche 911 Redbook. 700 is the color code for black. Not sure what the 9-2 refers to, nor the A1 A1 reference. I have a much later car, but is there a sticker in the front trunk underneath the carpeting on the inner passenger side front fender? That should list the exact color code (at least it does in later cars). There should also be a sticker underneath the front hood that lists all the options with which the car came.

xxx = paint code y = factory 8 = ??? perhaps Karmann or other coach factory 9 = Porsche factory z = paint supplier 1 is for Lesonal 2 is for Glasurit 3 is for Herberts 4 is for ? The A1A1 code is a different but parallel series probably used by marketing. The code on the car's paint badge is the important one. Trying to research this stuff is difficult . A1 and 700 both refer to black.

I haven't had time to research this but maybe look into clear coating, metallic, or a pearl type coating over the black paint. Most all black Porsche 911's and 930's were non-clear coated (during this era anyway) I have heard a few were.
I had something like this on a midyear metallic 911 I owned years ago. I hope this may give you some idea to get started with your search. Maybe somebody will have access to the meaning of the numbers. Good luck.

Thank you so much guys, big help. So the 700 is black, ok I think A1 A1 is the same just later. Then it is the 9-2 number on the plate. It must be black leather and blue carpet? Go up and read my previous post (#3 in this thread) it explains the xxx-y-z paint codes. Yes there is more to learn, but the basics are there. The A1A1 or H1H1 are not codes that were ever used on paint badges to my knowledge, but sometimes appear in COA's. The three digit numbers are the true paint numbers (eg: 700 or 042). The codes on the badges may change over the years, but the paint numbers remain constant from at least the 1950's into the 1980's. I haven't studied the newer codes very much. If you have any questions on paint codes, just ask.

alpha numeric codes at the end of a paint code likely are codes for the manufacturer of the paint.

Color code...
So, not sure if anyone still is checking this thread, but i have become the 3rd owner if a repainted 930 -- Here is a picture of the door jam plaque (358-9-3)... And ive cross referenced everything but cant seem to find this code matching with any colors codes ive seen listed. I can tell it was a "baby" blue.... Any guidance would be appreciated.

358 is Alaska blue a 914 paint code- there is a Carrera in Bozeman painted that color it's stunning

My 1978 930 is a paint to sample on the COA I ordered. But I still need to know the paint because I need to have some paint work done. Mine on the door tag read ....291-9-3. I understand the 9 and 3 but cannot find 291 anywhere.
