would you use this accumulator?
Morning all-
Finally (only 3.5yrs) got around to fixing my fuel accumulator, looking forward to no more hard hot starts. Anywho, it was suggested that the catalog offerred an alternative part # to the typical part # for an '87, which goes for something absurd like $365 or $285 IIRC. The alternative was $119... sweet! Picture of it looked identical. Part # seems to correlate it to a <'86, so the "Euro" fuel system: 911-110-197-01-M14. So I got it last week - it's tiny! Should there be any issue w/ running it in my '87? |

send it back home or try it out and see. . . if size affects performance.
looks like the old one wanted to stay there. |

That looks like an accumulator for an SC. The 930 CIS has higher fuel pressure than the 911 CIS as well as an extra fuel pump in the system. It may very well work but I'd keep an eye on it.

Tx boyz!
Yeah, it was a stubborn biatch to come off as you can see 8-). I agree Brian, but this is the part# that comes up for say a '79 930... dunno how or why. Guess I'll give it a whirl and see. |

When they went from 3.0 to a 3.3 the specs on fuel delivery changed and also the size of the front fuel pump got larger. So the smaller accumulator might not be able to handle it.

Jeeze, just hook two of 'em in parallel to share the load and still be money ahead...but then it would look like something funky that I might be tempted to do using plumbing fixture parts from Ace Hardware.

just throw it all away and dive into efi before you waste hundreds more on this antiquated CIS crap.

Ive been using the small accumulator in my 89 930 for the past 1 1/2 years w/ no problems regarding hard hot starts, drivability, and power. However my car is bone stock. I took the gamble because of the price difference (2x). The gamble paid off and so far no problem. Installation was easy w/ some repositoning of the hoses and tubes. Before I ordered it I asked my mechanic and he told me the warm /cold/control pressures of the CIS are pretty much standard in all cars that uses this system ( Our Ferrari mondial cabriolet 3.2 uses the same accumulator as in our M Benz 230GE, the 930 is also similar except for the single fitting below w/c is threaded in the Ferrari and the M benz you just insert the hose and clamp it because its just a low pressure return hose) in the books that he read. The purpose of the accumulator is to control the pressure so you wont have vapor lock during hot starts. But the proof in the pudding is in the tasting and so far in my 930 the small accumulator works. But the bigger accumulator looks better in our engine compartment. TDH888 |

Amen Ken - that's likely in the cards in a year or so. Sell all the CIS bits and Megasquirt the beotch! Enough projects for the time being alread tho 8-/.
TDH - AWESOME... exactly the sort of reply I was hoping I'd see. Excellent, thanks for that info. Gotta say too, you've got my ideal Trifecta of awesomeness there!!! 930 / Mondial 3.2 Cab / GWagen Too cool. I recently drove the Mondial Cab and was thoroughly impressed - wouldn't replace my 930 w/ one but sure would add to! Good for you... PICS of the 3!!! 8-) |

You're welcome! Pic posting is really easy. Two ways to do it:
1st - make sure you go to "go advanced" when you reply, vs. the quick-reply. This brings up another page, beneath the text box is "Click here to Upload a Photo..." hot link, which brings you to a browse your hard drive page. Browse, select, repeat to post more than one pic, done. 2nd - in the quick-reply page, or the advanced page... click on the yellow / grey square icon that looks like a mountain and a sun, this will direct you to insert the URL of a pic which is hosted on an online source - I use Picasa (Google product). Right-click your picture in a different window or browser, select "properties", then highlight / copy the URL in the properties. Paste that URL into the dialogue box back on your Pelican browser / window. Repeat for more than one pic. Either option affords you up to 10 pics per post. What country are you in? I sort of figured you were somewhere outside of the US with your 230GE - we never go those here unfort (of course!), but there are a handful of grey-market ones here and there. Love them rigs! Please post pics of all 3 when you can! Yes, I'm a Contributing Editor for European Car Magazine. Subscriptions no longer attainable where you are at? Let me know your country, I'll ask Editor Bidrawn - never know. Two of my publications are in links in my sig, and I've got one in the current issue out right now actually 8-)... my bud's 10sec Audi 90 Coupe Quattro. Fun stuff! I'm also in the early stages of contributing to Excellence Magazine, stay tuned on 'that' front - was supposed to debut this current issue but I don't see my bit in there yet - we'll see. Thanks for the inquiry! It's something I'm trying to build upon. Agreed though, I grew up reading VW & Porsche so writing for them was a major milestone for me! 8-) |

Hi, Im from the Philippines. Its nice that your a writer for European Car Magazine. The Best issue for me was when it featured the E24 (635CSI) buyers guide one of my favorite cars and( I still have it until now) it help me a lot when I was buying my 635CSI 10 years ago. Regarding the 230GE (W460) we sold it 5 years ago together w/ our 300GD both of them were the LWB variants (5 doors). I remembered the accumulator of the 230GE because I just saw (defective one) it last week when we were cleaning the gararge. The G Wagens were replaced by a 93 350GD (W463) its a turbo diesel its also a 5 door variant . This is also not available in your country. Will post the pictures of the cars later. Thanks for the tip regarding the posting. Will post yhem later this afternoon.I hope you can feature the 930 model in European car or Excellence, that would be a treat. tdh88 |

Sweet! Thanks for sharing! They all look great, and your CSI's in amazing shape. Good for you.
Looooooove the BBS basket weave's on the 930... just awesome. Must be kinda hard finding road enough to stretch the 930 there tho, I'd think. Double-edged sword of living in a tropical paridise I guess 8-). Not sure what 930's I'll get into ECM, I may have a 996tt coming up - meh. For 930's, Excellence should be running a car I did from a member of ours here and I've got another member's hopefully lined up for this summer after having to scrub the drive/shoot this spring. Fingers crosse, of course. Until then... |

TDH... just heard back from Excellence tonight, look out for my article in Aug's issue probably, he ran tight on space in last / next issues. Then another bit this fall of epic magnitiude 8-)... beware. |
