For you 356 guys, how about a turbocharged Polo motor?

Oh nooooooo... while they are neat, too rich for my blood! I'll probably just build out the spare 912 motor w/EFI and drive the lil' bastard.

I also had a 64 cabrio, sold it.. bought it back after a number of years and resold it again for real money. Oh well.

JFairman 05-23-2014 06:41 PM

912 motors run real good with weber 32/36 DGV carbs.
The original solex 40 p11-4 carbs look nicer and can work good too but they are finicky and like to percolate, backfire, and catch fire when you go to start them an hour after driving on hot days.

gumba 05-23-2014 06:45 PM

Living at 7,000 ft I think of turbocharging everything. Losing 25% h.p. when your only starting out with 60-70, ouch.

Lets see, a BST carbon fiber front wheel for my Ducati is about $1500.00. I bet a 911 fan would be close to that in a decent sized production run.

took a couple years off from my build but it's back on the ground so I can set the shop back up.

Nice to see you are back.

RarlyL8 05-28-2014 09:45 AM

We build headers for Polo engines and could easily do a turbo version if someone gets that nuts with their project.

Are you interested on getting it out of the garage and let someone else change the "state"...?

Naaaaaaw its been there a decade at least, waiting its turn while many-another-project has come and gone.

Now that I'm helping no one else with they're project, or working on anything to be sold, I've trimmed my heard a bit and looking to get at this old-girl come winter. I think I've rounded-up most of the other weirdness that was needed.

And for the record, it will not be restored back to original.. it will remain the Outlaw that it has been as purchased and brought over from Italy.

Miguel Antonett 05-28-2014 10:48 AM

^^^ Awesome, Outlaws are just fun - in addition to be "the real thing"... pls let me know if you change your mind.

I will.. but I wont.. This one has been with me longer than any of the others now.. this and my 73 even survived the ravages of the divorce,, so its a must do.

gumba 05-28-2014 11:15 AM

Polo+turbo+efi. I'd budget about $60K. But, boy what a ride!

Getting Ready

I guess it is my turn to chime in here (ok Jacob) but I lifted a few heads last year at Sebring when I was ... well ... having fun ,you know the guy in front of you doesn't want to let you pass . I found out just how much old head studs can take http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...oilet_claw.gif There goes the wallet feeling I'm sure some of us have felt ... LOL
But I limped it home without to much trouble and the build began . Now keeping in mind my car is a driver so looks sometimes doesn't matter so much if you can't see from blinding speed .

Now in the middle of all this in the last year I watch Pelican web site like a hawk buying and selling to get it done . Dam I really think all of us just keep trading parts all over the world . Restore the parts and put them on , just like new... my car is a great example of this in motion . When you can't find or just get tired of things that always break figure out a way to make it better ( Roland you are my hero )

A great question was asked awhile back on one of the forums and I'm still laughing ...
"How much does 400hp cost ? "
of coarse I was all ready on track to do this , I wanted 400hp to the wheels not dyno "TO THE WHEELS" we all no that is the easy part . But now it is time to stop or turn and we want it to do it very well , RIGHT OR WRONG ? Hate to say it but I am a racer at heart so comfort things just don't make me feel comfortable . The seat of the pants feeling of a good turn in just as the rear starts to back in and you point it just when the turbo starts to come on and ..... ok back to reality sorry for the moment :D
Now I have put together a really nice package I think will turn some heads at the track come MMC in July...

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-930-turbo-super-charging-forum/811696-getting-ready-turboploooza.html thread I started awhile back take a look and let me know what you think

Finally finished my suspension overhaul, brake rebuild, fuel system upgrade.

Today I drove the car the first time this year.

I eyeballed the suspension setup. Front is now resting at 24.5" and the rear is 26". I am going to drop it to 25" when I get the alignment taken car of next week.

For the suspension, I went with RSR - Clint set me up with a complete 935 setup using Bilstein RSR's, the 935 front end, Tarret swaybars, rear custom valved Bilstein coilovers, etc.

Brakes - new bearings, rotors, calipers rebuilt, new lines, Cool Carbon pads.

I got to shake the car down today and bed the brakes in. She's running great! I was pretty darn close on the alignment; no drift and no shift on hard braking.

FYI - the RSR setup that Clint set me up with rides extremely smooth. I am very impressed so far!

And for the fun; a few pictures I got of my car since this is her first time out in the sun this year!
