The nuts holding the case halves together look like regular 8x1.25mm nuts. The original case half nuts are the self locking all steel ones where the rounded off top edge is squished together a little to make friction on the threads once the nut is threaded all the way on the stud. I've heard them called "prevailing torque" lock nuts.
I've seen nylocks used there too. Hopefully the ones you have on there will not eventually vibrate loose. Maybe they were installed with loctite so that should work too. Otherwise you could remove one nut at a time and replace it with a prevailing torque or nylock nut for peace of mind and for it to look correct. Good luck with it! |

Race mechanics and aircraft mechanics use red loctite or safety wire through little holes drilled in the nuts. You don't want to loose a race or crash a plane because a nut came loose :) |

Going down a game trail on the slippery slope: decided AAR is a stupid design, so replaced it with a factory 964 turbo IACV. The upshot is no more bu!!$h¡t idle weirdness.

Got the 964 turbo IACV working today. It is just amazing what a luxury a dynamic and responsive idle controller is when you can take temp and throttle position into account.

I'm starting to grow weary of Electromotive. Their faulty coil packs fry a friends motor with no recourse. Then this week, my TPS won't post to the CPU, so we upgrade the firmware and voila, the TPS works. The problem? The knock sensors have stopped posting the to CPU. After I went to all the trouble of swapping out the Bosch knock sensors (didn't work) for GM.

Problem seems to be solved with the knock sensors - a mis-dialed parameter was making the knock sensors shut off at 900 RPM, soooo...that resolved, I drove the car today for the first time on full boost. My impressions are best summarized by:
This was the car, now idling as smoothly as a Hyundai, with a smooth drone of beautiful, Zorky goodness to set the mood: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1dSu_slqf40" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The AFRs are little lean at idle and before fuel dump from the delay solenoid, but that will be resolved tomorrow. Bottom line: this is the fastest car I have ever been in and has exceeded all expectations in terms of speed and character. And it isn't even tuned yet.
